AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Aug 8, 2008 This beer is a great every day beer. Very hoppy for what it it and it is a great way to have a craft beer at a better price. WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Aug 8, 2008 Updated: Aug 19, 2008I love the amber color, the sweet spicy aroma and taste, I love the way this feels in my mouth and I love the hoppy finish. I try to keep some of this on hand at all times, sort of my workhorse brew. DarkBeer (47), Ohio, USA Aug 6, 2008 I’m not a lager guy, but this is a good one, Nice amber pour, good head, nice oppy aroma, lovely clean taste, ahnakel (10), , Georgia, USA Aug 5, 2008 Not really the best beer I have had. I tasted at the request of a friend. It was not bad, but I do not plan to purchase again. leemaxx (2), , Oklahoma, USA does not count Aug 5, 2008 An excellent beer. Full flavored, refreshing and heads and shoulders above the mass-produced macro beers. BeerBlitz (48), Roslyn, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Ahhh - the first craft beer I ever had, back in 1992. Before that, it was a unending stream of Coors Light, Michelob, Natural Light, an occasional Heineken, and many fifths of Jack Daniel’s. The first time I had a "Sammy A" (our way of distinguishing it from Samuel Smith’s beers back in the day) I couldn’t believe the amount of flavor. I was used to water-like beers and soon found out there was no turning back. I still love this beer, with its great malt/hop balance, golden-brown color, medium white head, and light finish. One of the few lagers out there that I will regularly order. jeckenroth (81), Charlestown, Massachusetts, USA Aug 4, 2008
Pours a very nice auburn brown, very clear and an average white head that stick around a very long time.
Smells of hops and malt, little else.
The first hit is of the malt and then a relatively high hops tastes hits. Pretty average texture for a lager. Somewhat sweet at the end. Very drinkable. NomDeBeer (398), Maryland, USA Aug 4, 2008 For what it is, it’s pretty good - better than the macro lagers you’d get from Bud/Miller/Coors, probably due to the caramel flavors you get from the darker malts used in this beer. But in the grand scheme of things, there’s far better beer out there.
