Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Not really the best beer I have had. I tasted at the request of a friend. It was not bad, but I do not plan to purchase again.

An excellent beer. Full flavored, refreshing and heads and shoulders above the mass-produced macro beers.

12 oz. bottle. Ahhh - the first craft beer I ever had, back in 1992. Before that, it was a unending stream of Coors Light, Michelob, Natural Light, an occasional Heineken, and many fifths of Jack Daniel’s. The first time I had a "Sammy A" (our way of distinguishing it from Samuel Smith’s beers back in the day) I couldn’t believe the amount of flavor. I was used to water-like beers and soon found out there was no turning back. I still love this beer, with its great malt/hop balance, golden-brown color, medium white head, and light finish. One of the few lagers out there that I will regularly order.

Pours a very nice auburn brown, very clear and an average white head that stick around a very long time. Smells of hops and malt, little else. The first hit is of the malt and then a relatively high hops tastes hits. Pretty average texture for a lager. Somewhat sweet at the end. Very drinkable.

For what it is, it’s pretty good - better than the macro lagers you’d get from Bud/Miller/Coors, probably due to the caramel flavors you get from the darker malts used in this beer. But in the grand scheme of things, there’s far better beer out there.

Has a lager start with a cough syrup taste type finish/aftertaste. I just don’t understand the hype.

This a beer that one can drink any time of the year. Darker than most lagers, this beer has a myriad of complex aromas and taste. The thick head stays around from start to finish. One of the best American beers brewed today.

Darker than usual lager. Great hoppy taste and finish. Way better than any of the mega brew competition.
