Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

I really like this beer, a great sweet tasty yet a little hoppy with it. Great for the thirst too. An okay pourer, sits in a glass well. Definitely a beer a could drink every night after a grueling day.

I like this beer. It’s actually one of my "fall back" favorites. Local and good, draught much much better than bottle. It deserves much respect.

Amber color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is of malt with a light hop character, simple but pleasant. Flavor is of nuts and biscuits with a light malty sweetness.

Bottle drink by October. Nothing new to be said. Still in the same family as you father’s favorite lager, but more malty sweetness and better German hops. Not really bitter, but fragrant, floral hops. At times I’ve had this and it is better, sometimes it is worse.

Nothing wrong with this, despite how common it is. Pours a light brown with smallish head. Features a medium-to-light body with a nice crisp flavor. Some fruity hops, lots of malt and earthiness give it a distinct blend of flavors. I like to sip on this on more simple nights out.

Sure, it’ll do, but like most sam adams products it has a cardboardy quality to it. Body’s ok, but flavor’s not great. If I can get on my soapbox here, I think they brew too many beers that ultimately taste the same (and that long commercial description is so full of itself--yes, the beer’s drinkable but don’t tell me how expensive your hop varieties are. It’s like the commercials where we learn that Sam Adams puts a "pound more hops" in their beers--well, maybe that’s good and maybe not. Doesn’t it depend on the beer someone’s brewing in the first place? OK, I’m done now. Have I said it’s ok yet?)

Better on tap. Fuller aroma with more pronounced hops. Lacey head with great amber color. A little metallic in the finish, but not unpleasant.
