Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Draught. Pours copper, decent head that last too terribly long. Aroma is faint, mainly sweet malt. Taste is sweet caramel malt up front, with spicy pine hops coming out fairly prominently on the finish, a bit earthy. Hops actually linger a bit on the palate for a dry finish. Palate is moderately carbonated, light to medium body. Very different from the bottled version I’ve had before - hops come out much more clearly in this one.

Slightly redish pour with uber head that fadded to a frothy skimming. Strong malty scent, mixed with nuts and something ... soapy? (Yes I was using a clean glass with no soap residue). Rather nice taste. Nuts, malts and a touch of spice, way better then I expected from something so easily found.

Deep golden to light copper, foamy off-white head. Creamy malty nose, little hops and strangely dill weed. Biscuity flavor, nice strong maltiness. Not much else. Medium bodied, smooth palate, easily drinkable in gallons.

From bottle. Pours an attractive medium amber. Substantial creamy head. Flavor is very smooth and well-balanced. Nothing dominates the palate; smooth right through the finish. Overall, a solid if unexciting performer.

It’s good for a mass produced beer. My only real complaint here, is that sometimes...it tastes old....I’m not sure exactly what it is...but like...every third bottle tastes bad. But then, I’m drunk right now...so whatever!

bottle poured into a shaker has a light amber color and a 1/2 inch white head that stood up alright. aroma has malt, corn, sweetness, and a touch of hop bitterness when you search hard. mouth feel is light with plenty of carbonation. flavor has caramel malt, hops and bitterness more apparent, sweet but not too much so, and some grains. finish is carbonated with some lingering bitterness. love the commercial description "among the worlds most expensive hops costing 20 times as much as others" (psst, i think they got ripped off.)

Pours a dark golden brown color with a medium sized off-white fluffy head. Aroma is sweet malt and caramel, with some hop bitterness that is mildly apparent. Flavor starts out very sweet with even more caramel. The hops become more apparent through the finish and they even overtake towards the very end. They leave a bitter and pleasant flavor that lingers for a bit. Definitely a solid beer and still a good choice despite it’s size.

A pleasant, non-offensive, politically-correct beer that’ll do in a casual situation where high-quality beer is not available. A little more hoppy than others in this style, and that is a pleasant surprise. Bitter too for a lager, also a plus. Other than that, nothing groundbreaking here, nothing out of the ordinary. Just drinkable, that’s all.
