Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

[bottle] I know this is considered by some to be a great beer, and I am willing to give it another shot. That being said, the flavor of this beer was acidic and terrible. I really did not enjoy any of it. There is another one in the fridge and I will drink it, but am not looking forward to it.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice copper hue with a thick head. Head dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is of caramel. Taste is malty, a little fruity. I’ve never been a big fan of this beer, but it’s definitely drinkable.

I only recently tried a few Samuel Adams beers (this, the Octoberfest and Cherry Wheat), because I never expected much from them. However, I must say that Sam Adams has some very decent beers, and this is at the top of the pack of those I’ve tried. It’s smooth, creamy, and has some nice notes of sweet malt and citrus. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s overall a very drinkable and satisfying lager- the best lager I can think of off the top of my head.

355ml bottle. Deep golden/orange colour, medium creamy white head with some lacing. Intense malty/toffee-ish aroma, very uncommon for a lager (nose is more like esb), Hops and sweet malts dominate the full, rich taste, plus stingy citrus notes. Agreeable lasting bitter finish. Oily mouthfeel, medium to active carbonation. Mui impressivo! Not at all the bland lager I was expecting. The best blond American beer I’ve tried, and by quite a margin!

12-oz. Pours a crystal clear burnished medium amber. Light creamy off-white head that at least manages to stick around for a few sips. Modest lacing. Slightly soured, somewhat cabbagey and roasty nose. Mild earthy hop in the background. Creamy mediumjbody with some light fizzy carb hanging around the edges. Roasty, earthy mid-palate, some dark toast and nuts in there. Long dry leaves finish. Always drinkable. Not one I will pay money for as a rule, but refreshing and tasty enough.

Nice dark, golden pour. Subtle caramel and citrus flavors. Balanced hop and malts in the aroma. A good beer.
