Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Had this on tap at a Texas Roadhouse. I think they may have taken this one straight out of the freezer. Served in a 22 ounce frozen mug. One of the things the place prides themselves on is their cold beer. Oh well I needed some beer to go with my ribs and this was the best they had. Poured a translucent rusty orange with a small white bubbly head. Aroma of malt, caramel and maybe a mild hop. Overall the aroma was on the light side. Flavors of the same. To be honest this was quite refreshing at the temperature it was served and it went pretty well with my dried out ribs. 5-3-6-3-12 = 2.9 Re-rate. I had this just about as fresh as you can get it during the Sam Adams brewery tour. I’ll tell you what...there must be a lot of mishandling of this product because the fresh real deal is actually quite a nice treat. Pours a translucent golden amber with an average creamy/bubbly off white head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of citrus/floral hops, grainy sweet maltiness, some caramel, banana and hints of pine. Flavor of floral, citrus, green hops, cereal grains, toasted malts, nice hop bitterness and caramel.

Poured a medium white creamy head and it had good lacing to it. Some carbonation was noted rising to the top. It had a somewhat fruity aroma to it. It was bitter tasting and had an aftertaste that lingered.

Had this on draft at Topeka's Steak House in Hampton, VA on 3-13-04. Brownish red body with a small tan head. Nose is malt and some lighter fruit notes. The taste is very much malt with some caramel notes in it along with a hint of brown sugar. It's not a bad beer at all and I think Sam Adams gets an unnecessarily bad rap from some folks on here. Sure, it's not the be all, end all of beer but it's drinkable and unoffensive.

Dark almost ale like appearance with an English ale hopped aroma. The flavour resembles an English bitter with hints of caramel. A very nice beer, a lot different than your normal commercial American beers.

Rerate Aroma is slightly fishy and articial; light copper appearance, decent sized white head. Nutty flavor, with a cloyingly sweet aftertaste, just does not satisfy as much as it used to - tastes too artificial. Clingy starchy mouthfeel Original 3.6 Very refreshing on a hot summer's day in a cold frosted mug at a bbq joint. Great hoppy flavor and thick creamy head for a 'macro-micro'. Good standby when nothing local is available.

Bottled(355ml). -slightly hazy amber coloured, medium white head, sweet malt character, nice hop aroma with floral and mild fruity notes, this was my ninth american beer and it’s certainly the best

On my last visit to the United States, in 1996, I was served a substance called Bud Ice in a plastic cup, which tasted of very cold water. Trying to broaden my beer horizons beyond the British Isles, I saw this in my local supermarket, expecting something equally pale, bland, and charmless. From my first sight of this delightful amber drop I knew I was entering an altogether different beer dimension. A great taste followed by a wonderfully satisfying dryness, intriguingly different from the bitterness in English and Scottish beers.

On tap, this is a solid brew. Very good and you can get it virtually anywhere they serve decent beer (and even some places they don’t). Thin head, copper color. Nice hoppy aroma and flavor with caramel and malt flavors. No sweetness, mildly bitter. Excellent beer.
