Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Thanks to its near total market saturation, this beer has many a-time saved me from having to drink bud/lite/coors in a hotel bar. I remember my first in 1989 in a bar beside Emory University. Caramel maltiness with a citrus undertone.

Clear, copper body with some ongoing carbonation. Virtually no head. Thin, cool, malt aroma with faint floral hops. Taste is clean and light, with some caramel malts, and a faintly dry finish that has a nice, floral hop profile. The hops are the best thing about this beer, which is otherwise wholly unremarkable.

Dark golden, nice creamy head. Ok hop profile in aroma with sweet malt notes. Grassy, plastic and slightly hoppy flavour. A hard to define sweet maltiness comes through too. Clean citrus like hoppiness in finish (could taste more, though) with some sweet caramel.

Light red. Some scent of hops. Flavor is a little sour, but overall very smooth. Seemed thin and watery.

A very good beer, but what is amazing is how good it is for a mass produced beer. Aroma is moderate toasted ceral malts as well as pine and citrus malts. Pour yeilds a frothy off-white head that has very good lacing for the market. The head stays around for a while. The flavor is still great, but a bit more watery than I remember. A bit over carbonated. By far my favorite common beer that you can get anywhere!

Bottle. Pale golden-amber with a nice whitish head. Straw, grass aroma. Mineral, grass flavor. Enough hops to keep balanced and give a decent lager, but nothing outstanding.

The pour reveals a dark golden color with a medium white head. The aroma is mostly malty, slighlly biscuity and mild caramel, there’s also mild hops. The flavor is decent, there’s a nice balance between the slightly biscuity malt and the noble hops, it feels crisp and dry, on a negative note, there’s a metallic feeling all along in the mouth and I dislike that. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Not bad at all, but the metallic flavor gets on my nerves after a while.

Not really a typical lager. More like a belgian amber ale. Quity hoppy aroma with sweet caramel malts. Clear, amber-yellow coloured with an off-white rocky head. Looks very good. Hoppy, bitter taste with some malty sirup. Quite decent balance.
