Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Very distinct flavor but my least favorite of the Sammy’s line, as I much prefer their seasonal fare. Nothing to really complain about though, as it is an above-average lager.

Good sweet smell. Nice dark amber, sizeable head at first. Decent malt taste, also bitter. Good texture, complex. Hearty after taste. Very good

355ml bottle at Caffrey’s Corner in Kiruna. Orange colour with some foam. Fresh, but vague aroma. Fruity citrus flavour with hints of hops. Light bitter end. Medium bodied. Unexpressed potentiality, perhaps because it was served far too cold (13.07.2006).

This brew is much better than i remember it. Growing up around this brew made for forget that this is actually not a bad lager for the price. Very cheap for a smooth, malty lager. Aroma has some citrus hops and a touch of malt. Taste starts smooth and malty with a crisp hop finish.

Surprisingly good and full of character for an American lager. This even has some bitterness, but I don’t see the sweetness some commented on. A good standby and easy-to-find!

Bottle. Clear amber colour, medium cloying tan head. Caramel aroma with fruity hops, somehow reminding me of mango. Flavours are well-balanced caramel with good fruity hop bitterness. Not normally a lager fan, I am still quite convinced by this one.

12-oz. Pours a crystal clear burnished medium amber. Light creamy off-white head that at least manages to stick around for a few sips. Modest lacing. Slightly soured, somewhat cabbagey and roasty nose. Mild earthy hop in the background. Creamy mediumjbody with some light fizzy carb hanging around the edges. Roasty, earthy mid-palate, some dark toast and nuts in there. Long dry leaves finish. Always drinkable. Not one I will pay money for as a rule, but refreshing and tasty enough.

I’m surprised to be the first to rate this one. This is a pretty good, easy to drink beer. I like how the hops are very pronounced... and they tend to linger on the roof of your mouth well after the beer’s been flushed out of your system. One time when I was brewing beer, I was drinking a lot of this stuff. I couldn’t believe how hoppy it tasted. Maybe I was smelling my own hops. But I can still taste them every time I drink one of these bad boys. I have to say though, I don’t really care much for their ’other’ beers. And another side note: I do like how their beer bars are popping up in airports around the country. Anyone else notice this phenomenon?
