Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

22oz draught at BW3s - Poured golden with a short white head - Aroma is floral hops over grains a little yeast. Flavor is some honey, caramel malts, and a slightly bitter grapefruit finish. On the palate this is light and slightly watery. All in all not a bad beer for one that is readily available.

It has a good hoppy taste. It is a good beer to help those who think Bud is great to realize what they are missing.

Bottle. Fruit and flowery hops and malty aroma. Lots of bready malt flavours in a firm body with balancing bitterness in the finish.

If you’re going the lager route, this isn’t the worst out there...but I wouldn’t drink it again....another low on flavor.

Bottle. Pours a lovely amber color with a medium to large frothy off-white head. Wonderful malt aroma, bready and slightly roasted, with floral and slightly herbal hops. Medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. Perfectly balanced with a delicate bitterness. My first quality beer and still a personal favourite.

Sam Adams’ flagship beer. It’s ok. Better than all the other commercial crap beer that’s on a grocery store shelf. Light amber in color. basic mellow flavor. Light malt, light hop. Ok when there’s nothing else to drink.

Disappointing. He, this nice city Boston deserves a better beer!!! Clay, malt aroma. Amber orange body. Malty and very grainy taste. Thin, short lasting aftertaste.

Bottle. This and Magic Hat were what we went with in College when we actually had money. Given our usual drink when we had no money, which was most of the time, was Keystone Light, this tasted pretty damned good by comparison. Pours reddish-gold with a small head and good lacing. Aroma is bitter pilsner with toffee malt. Taste is more of the same. Not very complex, but it’s still not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.
