Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Crystal Clear golden amber color with a medium thick to thick head and good lace. Slightly sour and bitter well balanced aroma with a hint of sweetness. Malty flavor with a hint of sweetness and a hoppy finish. Just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness to make this a great beer. Smooth and light to medium bodied.

This is good for a lager, the problem is that I don’t really care too much for lager. And I hate trying to sound intelligent in my comments on these kinds of beers. It smells like a beer, tastes like a beer and looks like a beer. The only difference is that this tastes like a good beer instead of a bad beer. There’s just no complexities that make this beer different enough from your typical lager taste to really talk about. It does have a darker color than most of the American lagers, so that’s nice.

A good beer while you mow the lawn. I like the overall flavor and its body is good also. Just not my cup or beer I guess. I would say they have something when it is fresh out of a keg but bottled it loses something. Cheers to Boston!!!

One of the most available beers in the US, Sam’s Lager always provides the drinker with a solid "backup" option. The second US beer I ever enjoyed, the color is dark and the flavor nice. Slightly bitter finish, but a nice winter beer.

Bottle. This and Magic Hat were what we went with in College when we actually had money. Given our usual drink when we had no money, which was most of the time, was Keystone Light, this tasted pretty damned good by comparison. Pours reddish-gold with a small head and good lacing. Aroma is bitter pilsner with toffee malt. Taste is more of the same. Not very complex, but it’s still not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color beer with an above average size foamy white had with good retention. Aroma is hoppier then expected with a good clean sweet malt presence. Taste is quite sweet with a nice mix between sweet malt and a clean crisp slightly bitter finish. With more character then expected, this is a quite good session lager.

350 mL bottle. After the Peroni, this didn’t seem half bad. Light amber with a fizzy white head. Faint malty and bready aroma and taste with a crisp, clean finish.
