Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Really rather pleasant. Pretty amber color, more like a bitter than a lager in appearance. Nice, lasting head. Flavor is of gentle caramel malts balanced by flowery hops. In the past, I have detected an almost soapy flavor, but that seemed to die back around the time that the hop flavor was scaled back. Touch overcarbonated. Almost always a safe bet when the going is rough for selections.

Pours a transparent apple juice color with a 2.0 cm off-white head. Aroma is sweet with some mild hoppy notes in there. Start is smooth turning sweet, then ends with some mild hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel is good. This really isnt horrible stuff, despite the fact it is macro.

A better than average American lager, so readily available that it makes a good standby beer when you're stuck eating out at a chain or local tavern. Clean amber color, light orchard-flowery aroma. It seems to have changed a lot over the years, losing some of its character, but I suppose that's an evil of massive popularity. I'm never too sad if this is the only alternative offered to B/M/C, in fact, this is one that got me off the American Standards in the first place.

Long overdue re-rate. Bottle. Aroma is light yeast and malt, decent caramel washes splashing by. Pale orange body with medium bubbles and soapy beige head. Dry, crisp taste on a medium body, caramel and pretzelly malt. Aftertaste is slightly adjunncty - a cause for concern, and akin to their Oktoberfest. Risibly overhyped - this is not the savior of the American beer industry; still, often the only viable choice in many bars.

Light amber color and very clear. Has more flavor than most American lagers but tastes artificial. Clingy cardboard aftertaste. I think that's the Samuel Adams trademark. I find this beer difficult to drink and think it is very overrated.

A smooth and well balanced lager. Nice creamy head upon pouring with a pleasant copper brown appearance. Not bad at all.

eh, what can I say, another lager... Urine yellow with minimal carbonation. Skunk on the nose and body.
