Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

skunky cabbage aroma like old eastern european lager, soft golden color with quite the effervescent action and nice full head. solid malt backbone balances nicely with the noble hops, ends with a skunky, maybe spoiled finish. i remember this as better.

This has never been a beer I’ve fancied. And I’ve tried it so many times to see if I can figure out why. While it is all so obviously heads above the swill, it comes across as pedestrian to me. Maybe someone will be able to lead me to find and say what element there is that I don’t like.

Drank from the bottle. More hops than a typical US lager. A good first step on the way to drinking really good beers.

Clear and dark yellow with a frothy white head. Light and grainy, slightly fruity aroma with a hint of hops. Strange mix of toasted, bitter, fruity, slightly sour and hop flavors. At least it has some flavor for when you are at the airport or some national chain.

Bottle/draft. Always a dependable beer; helped raise the quality of American brewing expectations on a macro level. Helped bring home brewers out of hiding if for no other reason than to complain that this is not a ’’’’true micro.’’’’ I always grab a draft when I’m in Boston...when in Rome...

Typical lager aroma and color. Flavor had something strange I couldn’t put my finger on. For some strange reason, it reminded me of baked beans...you got me. Average.

Bottle... Poured a pale orange with a white head. Sweet malt aroma. Well hopped for the style, sweet malt and a clove presence. I’m not a big fan of the Samuel Adams company, but they certainly do make an improvement for a primarily boring lagers
