Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Amber pour with a little off-white head. Aroma was certainly hoppier than I remembered, and was pleasant for the style. Flavor didn’t carry quite the hoppiness from the aroma, but was complemented with some nice sweet malt. Rather creamy mouthfeel. Nothing too exciting in the finish, but this one was aiight.

Not too sweet or watery, nice for a lager. Bit sweet, and not up to ana verage craft beer. Some creamy mouthfeel and balance, crisp and dry aftertaste. Hint of floral aroma.

Bottle (12oz). Poured a clear almost glowing amber-gold, with a very large foamy, rocky, slightly off-white head, huge lacing - so far, not bad. Aroma surprising amount of sharp hops, good roasted malt in there, some spruce and pine, touch of yeast - but predominantly hops. Taste is very mellow, almost hard-woody mouthfeel - grain, malt and hop vie for dominance at first, grain takes the lead, then a nice hop & malt balance on the finish. Remarkably good - I normally scorn pale lagers, but if they all tasted like this, well ... I must try the Boston Ale!!!

Justslightly above average aroma that if pleasant but just to weak . Dark amber with full body that suprised me a bit . Intense flavour of cedar that is not my favourite . few pts added for complexity and warmness :)

October 2007. Bottle. Golden body with a small white head. Moderate hops in the aroma, light grassy notes with very light hints at citrus. Moderate bitterness throughout. Mild grainy middle, with brief light hint of bubblegum? Light citrus in the finish. Average palate is full for what it is. 6/3/6/3/13 - 3.1 <P>Jan 2001 - Decent but uninspiring. Found it to be a lot more malty than mainstream lagers but not exceptional. Worth trying again though. 6/3/5/3/10 - 2.7

Lt brown color, small head. A nice malty and hoppy beer. Flavor is mild, full mouthfeel. Good balance. A simple beer, but well made. Nice beer. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and slightly bitter.

This brew pours a medium head of fine to medium sized white bubbles and a transparent amber colored body. The head lasted a long time. Its aroma was that of mild malts and hops. It had a bitter initial taste then finished more smoothly. It had a typical hop flavor.

Bottle. Two finger beige rocky head that mostly diminished. Clear sparkling body with a lovely golden color. Aroma of floral, citrus, elderflower, caramel and over the palate light apricot feel. Medium bodied with a light dry texture and a lively carbonation. Well balanced light bitter and sweet flavor. Light dry hoppy and bitter finish. Very drinkable in large quantities.
