Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

This is the beer that started a revolution in the beer market. A fine quality beer that can be found about anywhere. They went the distance on the hops and it stands out. It may not be that unique anymore but it is an original.

Ill admitt i love this beer. Its about the best beer i can buy on a regular day at the store. Great for when youre not at a pub with more choices. The flavor is mildly sweet, spice, coffee, with a meduim malty head that stays.

These days SABL can be found just about anywhere. The Boston Beer Company has done a lot for the craft beer movement, bringing craft brew into the mainstream, and did so with their flagship brew, SABL. I don’t drink this beer all that often these days, I have such great local choices, but it is nice to know, where ever I go, odds are I will at the very least, find this beer. And make no mistake, I overlook it, but this is a great beer. SABL is loosely based on a pilsner, but deeper in color, and a bit more robust in flavor. SABL pours to a deep copper color with a nice white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose is very nice, grassy hop aromas and aroma of malt sweetness flood the nose. The palate is firm, with good pale and caramel malt flavor and a round and clean body. This beer finishes with a vibrant grassy hop bite that lingers and lets you know you just had a well crafted beer. SABL is a great beer that is very accessible, and very drinkable. In an age of great beer choices, it is often overlooked by beer geeks, and I admit I am guilty of doing this. I often call this beer Old Faithful because I know it is the one craft beer I will find in places where craft beer is few and far between. SABL is one of the beers that put craft beer on the map, and it is well worth revisiting no matter how many times you have had it in the past.

Pours crystal clear golden amber with a creamy head of medium sized bubbles leaving a modest lace pattern on the glass. The head is short lived but a thin layer of foam persists. The aroma is a medium intensity malt and hops balanced with fresh baked apple pie. The taste is dry, malty, slight caramel sweetness that finishes cleanly with a modest hop bitterness. Very little essence aroma in the back of the throat, slight yeast and alcohol aroma in the nostrils. A very drinkable beer but with such a well balanced flavor profile who could resist extending the pleasure by sipping. Fortunately Samuel Adams Boston Lager is widely available and reasonably priced for a premium brew.

The only American beer that I’ve really enjoyed and would buy again. Just a wonderful rich flavor that is good with food or just on it’s own.

This is a very good, strong tasting pale lager. It’s light amber with a good, dense off-white head that only slowly dissipates. The aroma is grain, malt, yeasty bread with a hint of cypress. The taste is light toffee, grain, being mostly malty sweet with a light bitterness coming behind. It finishes crisp. It’s tasty and has good body, is smooth, enjoyable, and very easy to drink, but is not among my favourites for the style. Compared to Budweiser Budvar/Czechvar, it is more bitter but less tasty and full-bodied.

What do I know? -- this is my first rating. and I’m not sure what to do with all of these categories. What I do know is that I like the hops flavor, and this is easily my favorite common beer.
