Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

I judge all other lagers in comparison to this one. Market saturation has nothing to do with a beer's rating. Sam Adams' beers have taken off because they are great, that's the bottom line. Jim Koch makes great beers, never skimps on ingredients, and even got in trouble with Opie and Anthony, which shows he is a normal guy, not an arrogant prick like Augie Busch, or a phony outdoorsman geek like Pete Coors. I taste different overtones every time I drink this beer, from black pepper to mead to chicken noodle soup to parsley. I don't know how they do it, but this may be the most complex beer of all time. Very smooth, very rich, very satisfying. My only complaint is that I get filled up after 6 or 7. In my opinion, this is one of the best lagers in the world, and to my knowledge, is still the only American beer imported INTO Germany. Cheers!

Slightly hoppy nose, great head. Crisp, full flavor, a bit hoppy, not at all watered-down. Definitely one of my favorite "everyday beers." At the same price as brews such as Heineken and other mediocre imports, you can't go wrong.

Appearance: Dark gold color, clarity good. Decent head formation. Smell: Nice noble hop aroma, mixed with some malt but noble hops are the dominant feature here. Taste: Noble hop flavor, quite good. Pale malt in background combines nicely with hops. Very balanced flavors and tastebuds go between malt flavor and hop flavor. Some caramel malt flavor comes through but is very subdued. Mouthfeel: Medium/light mouthfeel. Drinkability: Excellent beer, doesn't deserve to be downplayed by some beergeeks who claim it isn't that great because its "Sam Adams." This is a very good, drinkable, session beer that I could consume all day.

Great lager. Strong, bold, bitter brew. Very distinctive and flavorful. Beautiful amber color with nice frothy head.

Bottle. Pours a lovely amber color with a medium to large frothy off-white head. Wonderful malt aroma, bready and slightly roasted, with floral and slightly herbal hops. Medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. Perfectly balanced with a delicate bitterness. My first quality beer and still a personal favourite.

This is the beer that started a revolution in the beer market. A fine quality beer that can be found about anywhere. They went the distance on the hops and it stands out. It may not be that unique anymore but it is an original.
