Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Bottle. A staple in American bars and pubs next to the Bud. But this beer offers a bit more in flavor and is every bit as consistent. Dark gold/light amber in color with a white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma gives off both hop and malt, and a little grass, but not very strong aroma. Taste is better, a little bit of hop with malt and biscuit flavor which is more defined than in its competition. Smooth to the palate, moderate carbonation, but nothing inspirational. Clean finish, with a bit of malt in the aftertaste. A solid consistent beer.

Perfect malt and hop balance to make a beer you can drink cold for those occasions when drinking a beer is a must (cookouts, ballgames, the birth of your children, etc.) No need for notes of wildflowers, lemon zest and coriander stems. If that’s what you want, the wine store is around the corner. This is a beer drinker’s beer.

This is a great beer. I first enjoyed this at a workshop where some guys from Maine kept ordering "Sammy" at dinner. I hadn’t had it in a while but discovered it’s available locally so I tried it out again and was reminded of just how good it is.

What can I say. Best lager out there. Doesn’t taste like a macro, but is. Lager with color. Nutty and a bit malty. Two finger head, uneventful aroma.

I enjoy this beer. For lagers, this has tons of taste. You can really taste the hops in this beer. Not my favorite, but close for my favorite lagers.
