Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Loved it. Good value for money here. An almost citrus initial taste, but does grow on you. Good colour, and easy head.

My beer of choice in local bars that don’t carry other beers I like. I have gotten a few that have been skunky over the years but it is still drinkable. Great beer to drink. Nice label design also a plus to me.

Sam Adams, you grace my favorite local restaurant with your presence and save me from a worse fate. Slightly bitter aftertaste, but that’s just nitpicking. Very enjoyable and worth asking for.

an underrated brew. It's got good balance between malt and hops. It's not cloying although it has a nice fruity character. It's an all weather pleaser.

re-rated 9-2009; courtesy of Ric Jackman - translucide and bright amber colour with a solid, creamy, persistent and slightly beige foam; a fair and charming flowery hoppiness with notes of oranges; a decent malt body and tart bitterness; subtle carbonation; long flowery finish with notes of caramel - should be used as a benchmark to judge all other lagers

All I can say is thank your lucky stars this beer is so successful. Many taverns would be a lost cause if it weren’t for Sammy. If I have the choice I drink a Bass with a lime, if not I’m happy with this over-marketed lightly hoppy treat.
