Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

I've had this from bottle before and only tasted malt. Had the pleasure of a draft version at a Texans game and what a surprisng difference. Pours amber with slight head that fades quickly. Aroma is fruity and hoppy with malt. I never smelled any of this from the bottled version. Taste was surprisngly the same and well-balanced with a malty slightly bitter finish. Would definitely vote for the draft version again.

Bottle and draft at numerous local places. Like many of you , this was my first micro/craft brew, although they aren’t really a micro anymore. I think I had my first Sammy in about 1988 0r 89(old label). While many breweries and brews have since surpassed it, it was pretty extreme at that time. It is still an excellent beer that doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. It is well balanced, with enough hops to keep me content, the flavor is great, and it is VERY consistent. I think a lot of us have forgotten about SA Boston Lager as we have gotten spoiled by so many other great beers on the market today.

Sam Adams usually makes quality brews and this one is no exception. Although it is the most popular commercially, it is still enjoyable. Nice flavor, although not much like most other lagers which is a trait that is admirable. You can always tell this beer by its distinct aroma, but I can't really describe it well... maybe nutty and toffee like? Good bite and finish. Solid beer from a solid brewery.

Tap, bottle, whatever....Great beer, good in the clutch when all they got is bud and miller. oak/peppery finish. Lives up to its rep.

A wonderful aroma of rich hops with a sweetness to it. The full bodied beer gives a satisfaction that only the best lagers give. This is a great beer. Only downside is a slight after taste of bitter malty dryness.

If you can’t appreciate this beer, your nose is too high in the air. Had this today while watching football. Had a bowl of Chili and it’s taste shifted to a fruit-like quality I’ve only experienced with Bells beers. Entry-level craft style beer.
