Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Copperbrown beer with weak blonde head. Aroma is malty, slightly musty and maybe some aromatic hops can be found. Flavour is malty, slighlty roasted, quite dry in the end and roughly hopped. Easy and nice to drink. Overally too musty and simple, this would need more freshness. Not so good as another american lager ie. Brooklyn lager.

12oz bottle drank in the Sam Adams tulip glass. Pours an amber-tan color, transparent. Respectable fluffy head. Toasty malt and noble hop aroma. Medium bodied, nice and balanced. Tastes like a touch of amber malt is thrown into the mix. A nice hoppy edge to it, surpassing your standard, macro US or Euro-Lager in depth and quality of ingredients. Some smooth lager yeast tones. Sort of standard, and way eclipsed by the beers it helped pave the way for, this is still a well executed lager, drinkable and flavorable.

Bottle, drunk from sensory glass. Pours crystal clear orange/golden with thin bubbly off-white head that fades. Nose is stale pale malts and mild hops. Flavor is dry, earthy pale malts/hops and slightly watery (compared to what I’m used to anyway). As far as macros go, this is the best of the best...but that’s about the extent of my compliments.

Orange body with a large, lingering head. Strong floral aroma and weak but balanced taste. Not bad but nothing exciting

Given my lack of access to US craft brews, this has become my go to beer when I need a taste of home... Pours an amber color with light off-white head and lively carbonation. A good balance of toasty malt and citrus hops in the nose. The taste starts with malt sweetness, though it is decently balanced by hops. Malt dominates the mouth with light hops on the finish.

This is my drink of choice whenever I get stuck in Beer Hell. Beer Hell includes places like casinos, airports, airplanes, roadhouses, etc. Places that only serve the slimmest selection of macros. Sam Adams is the only macro that gives the hops a chance to shine. My main complaint would be the fizziness.

This is a decent lager, but it’s still not much to write home about. This beer is pretty much characteristic of a standard above-average lager. It certainly has more flavor than the macros in its class, but I just can’t bring myself to really enjoy it. As for unique characteristics, it goes down a bit bitter, but the finish is abrupt and clean.

Pours amber with no head. Aroma is fruit with some bitterness. Flavor is fruity with some hops in the finish. Too much carbonation for my taste.

Nice full taste, good aroma.. average appearance. MAYBE A little too much carbonation, but one of the best widely distributed beers in the US.
