Tons of molasses and anise aroma. Taste is roasty then a big lasting molasses bitter finish, a hint of iodine and anise. Really a great beer. daknole (3000), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Totally an oxidized rancid mess. Unfar to rate this...So I will give it a middle of the road rating. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2008 An interesting version of a porter from an earlier time period. Not really a fan of licorice , but everything was pretty good. Very roasted with a decent hop finish. jbuzz (661), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Since an A$$hole who will remain nameless sent me a few messages about how lame my rating are and that I don’t seem to be rating the beers as he thinks I should I am going to try this in a way to make him happy.
Aroma : had a Toasted toffee maltiness that appealed to ME.
Appearance: I like how it looked. (Ops no verbs there). Good rich brown color with a full tan head.
Palate Full body, Creamy texture, soft Carbonation with a long finish.
Overall impression most excellent
I may not be right on the same rate at others, but I thought to put what I think and feel about the beer was more important than just going along with everyone else.
Because after all I don’t think you’ll run out and get this just because I rated it.

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | Sep 23, 2008 This motor-oil black porter pours a thick darkness into the glass with a tiny head. Aroma is somewhat bready with dark chocolate and some toasted chicory. Tastes dry dark malt with coffee, licorice, and some hops in the finish. Very earthy porter with an almost dirtlike dryness. Nice to try, but I won’t seek it out. Sandman2222 (42), Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 25, 2008 Fairly dark, with a good flavor until the licorice take over, though that’s just a personal view. For staying in the traditional style, Sam did a top notch job. I wasn’t too fond on it though. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Out of the four, I think is probably the most palatable, and that is not saying much because Iw as not really impressed with any of the four. I think it is a good effort and unique, but way too much of a novelty. Toasted toffee maltiness, slighty bittersweet, the adjuncts are really apparent in this beer. Could have used a bit more carbonation, it is a little flat on the palate.
