| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 25, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with an inch of tanned head. Nose is dark fruit, molasses and some brown sugar. Body is crisp and regrettably thin. Flavor is bitter espresso with some fruity notes and not much else. I love Sam Adams but I’m disappointed with this brew. ljay6880 (160), , Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 22, 2009 12 oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pour was cola colored with an inch of muddy head. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, and light caramel. Taste is similar, but the body is lighter than expected and there is a mild bitterness that lasts into the finish. Though not spectacular, it is enjoyable and quite easy to drink. This seems par for the course from my experience with this brewer. ALCOHOLNIZM (66), WARWICK, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 21, 2009 THIS IS A VERY DARK BEER WITH REDISH TINT AND NEARLY NO HEAD OR AROMA. IT TASTES OF ROASTED CHOCOLATE MALT WITH A VERY SLIGHT BITTERNESS THAT MAKES IT A LITTLE CRISPY. VERY SMOOTH AND EASY TO DRINK BUT LACKS COMPLEXITY. STILL ONE OF SAMS BEST. nuplastikk (1224), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Opaque brown-black, with an off-white beige head that fades out after a few minutes. Mild sweet dark chocolate aroma. Medium bodied, fairly middle of the road. Easy drinking, but still displays a nice bitter chocolate aftertaste. Porter all the way, captures the style well. Watery body, but lots of specialty malt tones. Good. thedogs (6), Florida, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2009 One of the best Sam Adams brews. Pours an opaque brown/black. At first a strong onset of roasted barley and chocolate followed by a delightful caramel aftertaste. Definitely something I’d buy if i see it on the shelf somewhere. From a 12oz bottle. brenn79 (211), Idaho, USA

The flavor is a very mellow drinkable Porter, and a really nice caramel flavor that coats the mouth after the swallow. One of the best Sam Adams brews I’ve had. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Poured to a dark brown with a ruby red tint and a thin tan head that dissipated quickly and left little lacing. Aroma was a pleasant lend of black licorice, coffee, winter spices and a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel was full and tingly and the taste followed the flavors of the nose perfectly. Finish was warming, bitter and slightly dry. Not a bad beer at all. Codythegreat (146), Carrollton, Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Pours a dark black with a tan head that dissapates quickly leaving only a thin layer. Has a strong caramel and malty aroma. Very strong palate with a flavor of chocolate malt. I was very impressed with this beer. Nice lacing on the glass
