Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Holiday Porter is a full-flavored porter inspired by the famous drink of London's Victorian era luggage porters. Brewed with generous portions of Caramel, Munich and Chocolate malt, this hearty porter finishes with traditional English Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. Cheers!

Aroma is malt, not too much roastiness. Taste is different- a ton of roasted malt, very dry, coffee and chocolate. Super creamy palate. Thick lacing. Very enjoyable, my love for porters continues.

Bottle, pours a deep, dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, and coffee. Flavor is rich with caramel and chocolate malts and a nice amount of hop bitterness in the finish.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bready toasty malts. Taste is a bit of molasses sweetness from the malts, with a slightly bitter finish. Carbonation is moderate, with a dry finish. Overall pretty good, but nothing outstanding

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Roasted malt aroma, with notes of coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Flavor is also roasty, with notes of chocolate, molasses, raisins, coffee, and brown sugar. Medium bodied, with average carbonation and a flat cola mouthfeel. Okay.

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours the obligatory dark brown to black, with a surprisingly light head. The nose carries some slight roasted grain notes, and perhaps a bit of hops, although like most Sam Adams products, it is fairly neutral in tone. Carbonation is slightly too high for the style, making some of the malt character difficult to apprehend. What is noticeable is some nice, if subtle, caramel notes in the mid-palate, and a decent amount of roasted malt character and hop bitterness in the end of the palate and finish. Overall, a decent porter, and probably one of the company’s better seasonal offerings in terms of trueness to the style.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with an inch of tanned head. Nose is dark fruit, molasses and some brown sugar. Body is crisp and regrettably thin. Flavor is bitter espresso with some fruity notes and not much else. I love Sam Adams but I’m disappointed with this brew.

12 oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pour was cola colored with an inch of muddy head. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, and light caramel. Taste is similar, but the body is lighter than expected and there is a mild bitterness that lasts into the finish. Though not spectacular, it is enjoyable and quite easy to drink. This seems par for the course from my experience with this brewer.

THIS IS A VERY DARK BEER WITH REDISH TINT AND NEARLY NO HEAD OR AROMA. IT TASTES OF ROASTED CHOCOLATE MALT WITH A VERY SLIGHT BITTERNESS THAT MAKES IT A LITTLE CRISPY. VERY SMOOTH AND EASY TO DRINK BUT LACKS COMPLEXITY. STILL ONE OF SAMS BEST.
