greedycheater (80), Oklahoma, USA Mar 13, 2008 Aroma is nicely balanced between flowery hops and malty sweetness. Smooth, dark black body with a fair head and lacing that holds to the side of the glass. Coffee-like (must be the roasted malt), full-bodied, and sticky on the end, this porter is not as sweet as it is thick on the palate. Perhaps more Americanized than European porters, this drinks easily. Another reliable offering from Jim Koch and his team.
MaltDawg (369), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle from mix pack. Caramel with some roastyness and slight chocolate aroma. Clear deep amber brown with small fine white head. Roasted malt with some honey and caramel, and touch of chocolate. Subdued hop notes. Touch metallic. Medium light body with fairly dry chocolate finish and touch of hop bitterness. illidurit (431), Santa Cruz, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Dark auburn with ruby hues. Thick tan head, 2 fingers tall, great retention and lots of creamy lacing. Aromas of chocolate, brown sugar, and honey burst forth, with only a little roastiness. Flavor is roasty throughout with honey undertones and a dry finish. Body is rather thin, and that’s the only real flaw here. Carbonation is good and drinkability is excellent. Almost a great porter.
ekstedt (1954), Göteborg, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 Bottle (36 cl) from Systembolaget. Deep copper with a creamy beige head. Roasted aroma with a strange and stale honey aroma. Well balanced with a dry finish. Todeon (211), Höllviken, Sweden Oct 2, 2008 Bottle. Aroma is nice with lots of honey and coffee. Watery and thin mouthfeel. Taste is some dark chocolat and coffee. Linnet (30), , Sweden Oct 2, 2008 small beige head, dark blackish colour. Honey and coffee in the nose there is no noticable roasted aroma. honey in the flavour some hints of coffe. it is roasted too lightly for my taste and isn’t terribly interesting, but not bad.
