clasley (153), Arkansas, USA Jan 3, 2009 355 ml bottle. Pours a nice copper amber with an adequate off-white head. Strong nose loaded with floral and citrus notes with a touch of spice. Full bodied malt profile with bold strokes of caramel and toffee. Malt sweetness is quickly balanced out with an aggressive hop bitterness. Finishes quickly with a slight lingering tartness. Definitely one of the bolder beers in the Sam Adams line - one I hope to see again. jimmay (179), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jan 2, 2009 12 oz bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours amber in colour. Not much head or lacing. Super hoppy aroma and taste. The hop-heads will like this one! Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Dec 31, 2008 12oz bottle, from Swolf3, thanks Steven. Kind of a brite orange color, had a white head also. A little spiciness i n the aroma, a bit of hoppyness as well. Some orange and other spices with a nice hop bite in the finish. Pretty good. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Dec 30, 2008 If you like hops, this is for you. Picked it up because "hey, I have not seen that Sam Adams before" is always a good enough excuse. At first pour, it smells like any IPA but has a more orange color. The smell crawls into your nose and hangs out there just to tease you into drinking it. The bubble in the head were rather big and the head lasted for quite a while.
It has a strong stinging hop flavor that gets easier with each sip. The only way I could have enjoyed it more was if I was a hop head. But since I know what Jim Koch’s goal was, I appreciate its approach.
This beer forces you to drink it slowly.
GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Dec 28, 2008 Pours bubbly burnt orange with an off white head. Hoppy nose, citrus, pine as well as some malt. Wow, first sip is impressive, a ton of citrus and pine hops with great sweet malt balance. For all the hops in this beer it has great balance, a nice full body and is very smooth . Sam Adams can be very hit or miss, but this one is certainly a huge hit. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 27, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a cloudy copper with a minimal white head. Dank hop aroma. Lots of hop and lots of malt. Did this side by side with Rogue Morimoto and tough to pick a winner. This one is more dense and robust for sure. Pretty good. TKA300 (98), Carbondale, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2008 Updated: Jul 8, 2009I wasnt expecting a whole lot from this beer, but I actually enjoyed it. It wasnt very balanced, and tasted really bitter to start, but finished strongly hoppy and carbonated. Very hoppy, but overall drinkable. ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Dec 26, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark yellow with a small off white head that fades fast. The smell is obviously dominated by hops, with some sweet notes and some citrus. The taste starts sweet with the strong hop flavor booming loudly, then fleshes out to a full flavor with nice tones of the hop. It finishes somewhat bitter, with a long bitter aftertaste that has you wanting another sip. The mouthfeel is smooth, nice carbonation, a medium body, a bit heavier than the usual pilsner. This one is great for any hopheads out there. A great flavor, nice to drink, and you cannot tell that this beer has a higher ABV. Definitely worth checking out, a great beer! Hoppy, Hoppy, and Hoppy.
