Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

pours a nice orange with a thin but creamy beige head. Citrus nose with a nice hop undertone. One of the most intensly hopped pilsners that I have tried, intense at first but mellows out as the malt kicks in. Very nice beer, tasty for a pilsner.

Pours a slightly dark copper. White head dies quickly. Excellent nose of bakery and caramel (10 out of 10). Hops galore. Bitter as hell. Not as good as Hopslam, but close!

2008 bottling of Hallertau Imperial Pilsner: slightly cloudy golden-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit with a slight undertone of alcohol. SLightly thick mouthfeel with a strong hops taste that lingers on the tongue. I’m not normally a pilsner fan, but this one is a winner...reminiscent of quality that Sam Adams put out when they were still considered a micro.

Wow! Sam Adams brewed this. I am impressed. When I seen the description on the side of the bottle, I was questionable. Great hops for a wonderful aroma of citrus. Nice golden pour with an spectacular bubbling body. Will buy this again before the season is up. Great job!

Labeled "Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner". Golden orange pour into a white frothy head with small amount of carbonated bubbles rising from bottom of the glass which dissipates into a few foamy bubbles and lacing that hangs on the glass. Heavy aroma of hops and spicy citrus. Initial flavor of flowery hoppiness...this one is a hop bomb with good balance of malty sweetness. Dry finish with a lingering slightly bitter hoppy aftertaste.

Pours a nice, white head that leaves pretty lacing. Light amber color. At first it is hard to distinguish from an IPA. It kind of smells like one too. But there is something different about it. Hoppy and bready taste. Some fruitiness. Leaves an aftertaste. Medium body, but has a pleasant thickness. Rather good.

Bottle from Systembolaget (temporary) It realy delivers what it promise, a lot of hopps! However its not your average hoppy american but an Imperial german taste or America goes German. All togheter I think its a bit to bitter and not very balanced, but still an interesting beer!
