pkbites (309), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 30, 2008 Pours a slightly dark copper. White head dies quickly. Excellent nose of bakery and caramel (10 out of 10).
Hops galore. Bitter as hell. Not as good as Hopslam, but close! BillWyce (90), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 30, 2008 2008 bottling of Hallertau Imperial Pilsner: slightly cloudy golden-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit with a slight undertone of alcohol. SLightly thick mouthfeel with a
strong hops taste that lingers on the tongue. I’m not normally a pilsner fan, but this one is a winner...reminiscent of quality that Sam Adams put out when they were still considered a micro. kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 30, 2008 Really great Hops flavors and aroma with subtle aromatic notes. Cloudy golden with modest head. A really great beer Unique69crazy (119), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Nov 29, 2008 Wow! Sam Adams brewed this. I am impressed. When I seen the description on the side of the bottle, I was questionable. Great hops for a wonderful aroma of citrus. Nice golden pour with an spectacular bubbling body. Will buy this again before the season is up. Great job! RasterMaster (120), , Oklahoma, USA Nov 29, 2008 Labeled "Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner". Golden orange pour into a white frothy head with small amount of carbonated bubbles rising from bottom of the glass which dissipates into a few foamy bubbles and lacing that hangs on the glass. Heavy aroma of hops and spicy citrus. Initial flavor of flowery hoppiness...this one is a hop bomb with good balance of malty sweetness. Dry finish with a lingering slightly bitter hoppy aftertaste. mansquito (819), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Nov 29, 2008 Pours a nice, white head that leaves pretty lacing. Light amber color. At first it is hard to distinguish from an IPA. It kind of smells like one too. But there is something different about it. Hoppy and bready taste. Some fruitiness. Leaves an aftertaste. Medium body, but has a pleasant thickness. Rather good. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Nov 29, 2008 Bottle from Systembolaget (temporary)
It realy delivers what it promise, a lot of hopps!
However its not your average hoppy american but an Imperial german taste or America goes German.
All togheter I think its a bit to bitter and not very balanced, but still an interesting beer! puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Nov 28, 2008 Strong head. Very dense and light orange in color. Reduces very slowly to a rocky top. Light carbonation. Hazy orange copper in color. Slight initial skunky aroma but disipates to a malty aroma with a bit of hops, honey and spices. Big hops and bitterness in the flavor. Actually pretty tasty. Thick palate for a "pilsner". Chewy with plenty of sweet malts. Bitterness is a little harsh but not too over the top. Nice alcohol warming and noticable alcohol presence. Finish is coating and a little bitter. I like this one more than I though I would. Good job Uncle Sam
