Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Strong head. Very dense and light orange in color. Reduces very slowly to a rocky top. Light carbonation. Hazy orange copper in color. Slight initial skunky aroma but disipates to a malty aroma with a bit of hops, honey and spices. Big hops and bitterness in the flavor. Actually pretty tasty. Thick palate for a "pilsner". Chewy with plenty of sweet malts. Bitterness is a little harsh but not too over the top. Nice alcohol warming and noticable alcohol presence. Finish is coating and a little bitter. I like this one more than I though I would. Good job Uncle Sam

12 oz bottle into pint glass. Nice slightly hazy darker golden (with some orange hue) and a bit white head that holds and leaves great lace. Doughy hoppy aroma. Hoppy flavor accompanied by a thick pale malty sweetness. Medium to rich body. Overall: great beer, great style.

The label on the bottle gives the name Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. Attractive beverage, a nice orange red, lots of fizz, a two-finger width white foam head. The smell is purely hops, mainly pine hops, and a little honey/malty sweetness thrown in. The taste is interesting. The hops are burning, but there is an underlying malt sweetness. At first, this was basically like hop juice, but I eventually saw more complexity to it. The mouthfeel is medium thick, and a little oily. The finish is a citrusy/grapefruit hop flavor, astringent and long lasting. Interesting beer overall.

8.1% bottle. Pours hazy orange, with white head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity (citrus) and floral. Taste is sweet/honey and light bitter hops. Alcohol is well present with nice citrus touch. Very hoppy for a pilsner. Drinkable, with the Sam Adams signature.

Pours a hazy copper with a boisterous billowy head. Aroma is rather subtle, with mostly hops and malt. Flavor is pretty bitter, again with hops and malt, not a lot of extra flavors, but quite good for a pilsener. Palate is pretty nice, again great for a lighter style. Well done.

Nice amber-brass pour. The orange aroma is aurprisingly mild for such a hoppy brew. The flavor is packed with rich, peppery, grapefruity hops, and the aftertaste is enjoyably bitter. Super strong pilsner taste and velvet mouthfeel. It is not sweet, and not as sharp and bracing as most imperial IPAs. This is a unique, powerful brew.

Bottle. Light amber with a huge, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma dominated by hops - resin and herbs. Very bitter with some saltiness. Full bodied with light carbonation.
