Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Almost not a pilsner... tastes more like an IPA. Still has a slight pilsner flavor to it, but the massive amount of hops in this beer overpower the appeal of a light pilsner. If this were toned down just a tad, it would be an excellent imperial pilsner. This is a good beer, but I still prefer the Brooklyn brewery offering in this style category.

2008. 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with a 1 inch head and very little lacing. Aromas of hops, hops, hops, and a bit of sweet malt. Flavor is all hops but not overly intense like IIPA. Decent beer, from from the macro producer.

Hazy golden color with a thin off white head. Bottle says an intense hop experience. This beer is all hops but it’s not nearly as intense as I thought it would be. A slight malty sweetness makes it a little more mild. The after taste is a bit bitter but all in all this brew is pretty good.

Surprisingly huge hop presence for the style, they promise intensity on the label and they certainly deliver. Pours a nice golden amber with a large but quick evaporating head and good lacing. Smells exactly like the walkway to the Rogue brewpub, hops, hops and yeast. Bitter but tasty flavor and a lager aftertaste. Good effort, let’s get more of these different Sam Adams out west.

Bottle: Much as the bottle states.. INTENSE hop.. They live up to it. Poured a very clear dark golden brown color with a very small off white head. Scent is pure hop.. Taste is pure hop. Came in a 4pack.

Listed as Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. Pours with a large, creamy white head and a glowing hazy gold body. Very good lacing, and some alcohol legs. Aroma of hallertau everywhere, some orange, mango, and spice hops aswell, some bread and caramel too. Aroma of imperial Boston Lager...very nice. Taste is bitter but with the malt back bone of a DIPA. There is a bit of an odd lagery aftertaste, and a bit of astringent, nearly yeasty taste. Creamy with light bubbles. Very nice.

Pours a very dark orange with a minimal white fizzy head. Aroma is of earthy hops, spice, hints of caramel, and citrus. Taste was a bitter hop bite, strong burning alcohol, and citrus. Some very tasty malt balances it all out. After the alcohol settles, a mellow sweetness presents it self to make this very drinkable. Not as strong as I remembered it.

Poured a clear dark golden amber color with a creamy off-white head. There were loads of carbonation bubbles in the glass. The head slowly disappated to just a light film, but left decent lacing. The aroma was of some citrus and pine. The beer had a creamy texture and a good hop bitter bite that grew in its bitterness on the finish. The longer drinking the glass there was a nice undertone of sweetness that developed and bit of a tart citrus flavor as well on the finish. The taste was strong and the flavor lasted on the palate a long time. Excellent strong beer!!
