Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Pours golden orange with a thick white head. Smells very hoppy, citrusy grapefruit, sweet malt. Hoppy, very diferent, kind of an off taste, toasted malts. Not a huge fan, but for sam adams its acceptable. Imperial Ipa, Imperial stout, imperial porter and now imperial pilsner we are living in the age of imperialism for beer, which isn’t a bad thing

Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a thick off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and sweet fruits. Flavor is quite hoppy with nice citrus and floral hops, light caramel and toasted malt, and a mildly bitter finish. No astringency and perfect balance. Ah, what a delight!

Pours a clearish orange hue with a white frothy head. The aroma is big citrus here. and sweet caramel and honey. It’s absurd sweetness. Flavor is the same with a very good balance to everything. Citrus and floral hops going on everywhere. It’s pretty much pure delicious.

Pours clear amber with two finger white head. Aroma is loaded with spicy and floral hops with a slight background of malt. Flavor is very well hopped- lots of hop variety with a surprising amount of sweeter malt for such a light colored beer. Balance is great. Palate is medium with a slightly astringent finish. Finally a decent nice beer from sam adams.

Darkly straw-colored, bronze-ish hue. Honey and grassy hop aroma, maybe with some fruit. First taste of honey malts, followed intermittently by a punch-you-in-the-face hop drive. The hops are not too bitter, but impart a nice flavor that complements the malt well. Significant carbonation, and the alcohol warmth kicks in only at the very end. It does take a while to go down though, and the flavor lingers a bit too long. Overall I like it, but I don’t think the quality is worth its price.

This beer poured a nice clear yellow/gold color. Aroma was immediately nothing but big juicy citrus and hops. I could have smelled this beer for ages. It smelled fantastic. Flavor was more of the same. Like citrus juice, the hops flavor just exploded on your tongue. This was a great beer. Puts a lot of Imperial IPAs to shame.

[Bottle] Pours a clearish gold with a large beige head with some lacing. Aroma is a bit of floral and noble hops, lager yeast, and a significant amount of sweet malt to back it up. Flavor is quite strong. The hops hit first, with a significant bitterness. The medium mouthfeel from the substantial amount of malt is nice. Alcohol is definitely present, but is balanced by the spicy bitterness of the hops. Quite a strong brew, but a nice showcase for hops in a lager.

Nice golden color with tremendous hints of hops. When tasted, the hops my friend are there to party in the mouth. Excellent stuff! The aftertaste is every bit as great as the whole experience from the beer leaving the bottle to ending up in my belly. Superb!
