BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 21, 2008 Purchased @ Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. This was actually really good! Monstrous hop aroma, that follows through into the palate. Still retains what I expect out of a pilsner, very crisp and clean, but just has a rugged hop edge to it. It still retains a good bit of balance, while still having a huge hop bit throughout. Nice effort, one of the best things Sam Adams has done in years. weezfour (122), Oradell, New Jersey, USA Apr 16, 2008 Way too much hops for my liking, but a great beer nonetheless. Got it in a 4 pack over the winter. DKTN (110), Mc Donald, Tennessee, USA Apr 12, 2008 Bottle, 2007 vintage. Strong hop aroma, as well as flavor and palate. I’m not a hop head so I can’t judge this one fairly. The label does not lie; it is truly an "intense hop experience." hickey (32), Georgia, USA Apr 6, 2008 Bottled, Phenomenal beer character. Spicy, bitter, crisp, the ideal pilsner style.
The beer poured an amber color, nice and bubbly. Less of a head than I expected. Very foggy from the sheer amount of hops. abcfan (244), New Jersey, USA Apr 3, 2008 If you like bitter, this is the beer for you. Pours a hazy orange color with a quickly vanishing head. Taste is of very bitter hops with a nice citrus/honey flavor to balance it out. Fells very thick/sticky on the palate with a very long finish. Not a big fan of the style, but this one pulls it together nicely. FSUHusker (5), Tallahassee, Florida, USA does not count Apr 1, 2008 This is my favorite SA beer. It has a great hoppy taste and looks great in a glass. This beer has made me not give up on Sam Adams and I have begun buying there other beers in hope of finding other beers styles that they produce that I would like. It has been a mixed bag so far..... chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 1, 2008 Pours orange with big head. Very bitter aroma and flavor like it should be. High alcohol content yet drinks smooth unlike other high content beers. Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Mar 28, 2008 Overall a very good beer and highly recommend giving this one a try. When the beer is first poured, the aroma of bitter hops really hits the nose. Pours golden orange with a nice head that dwindles down but doesn’t disappear. First sip is a very good bitterness from the hops, not raw but a good aged taste, followed up by a slight malt taste and a semi-strong alcohol feel. The longer time between the sips you allow yourself, the more you are rewarded. The full flavor of the hallertau shines through and seems to stick to the tongue allowing the flavor to linger for a few minutes. Surprised me at how long the flavor lasted and how much better it got in between sips.
