Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

This was a real pleasure. Aroma was of a nice citrus with some floral characters along with strong hops. Taste was the same but the blending of the flavors went real well together hiding a lot of the alcohol and making a nice taste. I would definitely buy this one again. Real tasty.

This is an interesting beer. Tons of hop flavor without it being overly bitter. Hops overshadow the grains and beer flavor, but it is worth drinking. Would be a good beer to do food pairings with.

Pours a cloudy orange with about 2 fingers of off-white, rapidly dissipating head. Nice odor of grasses and hops. Very light beginning taste, that then builds with a little bit of hop bitterness and alcohol on the aftertaste. A good pilsner.

This was the first legal beer I had as a 21 year old. I wasnt on ratebeer at the time so i’ll review it now. Pours murky orange with a white head. Aroma is awesome hops. Flavor is a ton of hops, with a dry bitter finish. Some dirt on the aftertaste. Too one dimensional for me. The hops are good but theres little else.

Second time I’ve had this beer. Pours a hazy golden orange color with a creamy white head that leaves a little lacing. Fantastic aroma of fruit and hops. Smells very sweet. Great initial flavor that lets you appreciate the sweet nature of the hops, fades into an almost harsh hop finish though. Kills the flavor a little, but I still really enjoyed it.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden colour with a white head. On the nose I got som caramel and toasted white bread with butter on top and loads and loads of fresh and fruity hops. Flavour starts with some malty sweetness - caramel and toasted white bread. Then it’s hops, hops and hops - giving the beer a nice freshness and hints of pine apple candy. You don’t feel the alcohol. The finish is dry and salty (made me think of green olives) with a great bitterness. Good one!

12 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange with a nice off-white head. Good lacing. Aroma definitely had that pilsner smell to it but also hops and malt. This had a taste that was very powerful hops and spices, yet a slight malt sweetness to try and counter. Mouthfeel was medium with a very strong hop bitterness at the finish. Not balanced, but that’s ok with me. Pleasantly surprised by Sam Adams on this.
