Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

12 oz bottle. I have had some decent brews from Samuel Adams, but nothing that has really wowed me. Until now. Holy crap this is good. Beautiful amber color, nose is fresh hops. Flavor is truly an explosion of hops. In fact, this is hoppier than most IPA’s and IIPA’s out there. This beer will make most hopheads pucker. Im dumbfounded. This is one of the best beers I have tasted in a long time.

I’d have to say that this an overall fantastic brew. Hoppy, aromatic, hoppy, sweet, hoppy, balanced taste throughout, hoppy, great. Just love it. And not overpriced!

Light amber colour with minimal head. Thick oily body with light carbonation. Quite sweet and malty upfront and rich in texture. Flavour is slightly citrusy from the nice hop presence. Finishes rich and dense while struggling to mask the higher abv.

Bottle. An incredibly fruity hops aroma - hints of cherry, berry, orange and grapefruit - seems to change a bit every time. Hazy pale amber color with moderate head. Initial caramel malt flavor followed by a grassy hops flavor that increases in bitterness as you swallow. Wow, stands up to any I2PA. Great hoppy beer.

bottle. Excellent offering from the Boston Beer Co. - the best I’ve had from them by far. I love hops and this beer delivers on their promise of an intense hop experience. It is full of hops and is good and chewy on the way down. The hops linger during and after the finish. Aroma is lacking... the hops don’t shine through on the nose as much as I would like. It pours a deep golden with a thick inch white head that stays around a while while diminishing to a 1/4". The beer has an excellent presence on the palate. Highly recommended to any hop lover out there... get it while you can.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky, rusty, frankly unattractive mud color with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the last sip and left partial lacing on the glass. Very pleasant aroma of fresh citrus. The flavor is initially caramel with a smooth mouthfeel. This is quickly washed over with a resinous, but not overly bitter, pine flavor. As the beer warms a bit, the pine flavor is less dominant and more of the citrus flavor emerges. Dry on the palate at the finish, which lingers for another 10 or 15 seconds beyond the swallow. Well done by Samiel Adams!

Very good looking pour - cloudy orange with significant head and lacing. Citrus/hoppy aroma. Excellent balance of hop and malt. Not overpowering at all. Wonderful beef by Sam Adams.

Thanks Mcox90! This is one great offering by SA. Hazy golden with soft foamy head. Hop aroma fills the room on opening bottle. Taste is of citrus hops and pale malt.
