graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 29, 2007 Pours a deep gold into the glass with a small white head that has some lasting power. The aroma of this beer has a lot of hops in it and some vague resemblance to that skunkiness I have come to expect from its lesser alcoholic version. This is my first Imperial pils but I was really surprised to see how much of the flavor remains similar. Sure this beer is an amped up version, but the clean taste and nice toasty maltiness is still there with the nice hop aroma and flavor. I probably couldn’t drink too many of these, but I think it’s a really well made beer. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 29, 2007 12 oz bottle- poured a very cloudy (heffy like) dark yellow, great formation of a bubbly head. Aroma of hops and slightly of malt. Hits the mouth with a smooth maltiness, some hops, all carry through to the finish, which wants you wanting more. HEY BEER-PAGERS- this may not have the carbonation of a soda, but why don’t you like it? It’s an excellent beer! DAVOMCW (7), ST LOUIS, Missouri, USA does not count Oct 29, 2007 12 OZ. BOTTLE. BIG HOP BITTERNESS.
WELL BALANCED. COULD NOT TELL IT WAS 8.8%ABV. AS ALL SAM ADAM BEERS--- THERE IS PLENTY OF HOP (ASTRINGENT) BITTERNESS THAT MUST BE FROM A HARD WATER PROFILE. I WOULD BUY THIS ONE AGAIN. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Oct 28, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a light amber color with a small, dense white head. Fragrant hop aroma. Taste is similar. Very hoppy and somewhat bitter as well. Some alcoholic notes. A pretty good beer, but could be a little less one-dimensional in my opinion. tomciccateri (496), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Oct 28, 2007 Poured a dense gold with a white head, offered an intense hop aroma. Medium-bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel where the hoppy flavor balance dominates the mellow maltiness. Late alcohol warming and lingering hop bitterness. Interesting emphasis on the characteristics of the Hallertau Mittelfruh hops. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Oct 28, 2007 nice dark gold color and no head on the pour. smells very sweet with a subtle hop note. the taste is great the hops don’t really stand out til the end and the aftertaste is great. frankenstein (64), Livermore, California, USA Oct 28, 2007 Updated: Nov 8, 2007Pours with a cloudy sunburst orange color that just says it’s a pilsner with flavor. Nice foamy head. Strong hop aroma that smells like fresh cut hay or grass. Has a nice hop bitterness and crisp flavor, exactly what I would expect from an Imperial Pilsner. Definately one of Sam Adams best beers. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Oct 27, 2007 Pours a cloudy dark straw color with a thick, persistent head that leaves foam along the glass the whole way down. The aroma has a nice floral hay-like smell atop a sweet malt base. The taste is traditional pilsner with a particularly nice, rich finish with a flush of noble hop that lingers. Nice, refreshing, and the alcohol is well-hidden.
