Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Feb 6, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours clear orange/gold with a nice beige head. Aroma of hallertau, citrus, malt sweetness. Taste is also very nicely hopped with hallertau. Finish is nicely bitter. Body is full and sticky. Overall, a nice hoppy pils and something interesting from Sam Adams. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Feb 1, 2009 Not a big fan of Pilsners, so this one had me cautious heading in and I came out pleasantly surprised. Mega cloudy orange with a slowly fading lacey large white head. Aroma of noble and Hallertau hops, citrus, orange, mild alcohol and malt. Taste of heavy noble hops with a heavy mouth feel and some minor warming. Very interesting, almost too many hops but hey it made this Pilsner pretty enjoyable. Finished semi bitter. If only Miller tasted like this… durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Jan 30, 2009 Surprise... This beer is great. Bright slightly hazy golden pour with orange tint and generous off-white head. Big fragrant Hallertau aroma. Floral and lovely. Not too hot given the ABV. Well balanced. Quite enjoyable. Great style of beer. TimE (1300), Tokyo, Japan Jan 27, 2009 This is seriously surprised me. Golden color, apricots, bready, caramel nose. Full bodied, very well balanced, bready notes with apricots lingering in the finish. Very nicely put together. bozoNZ (481), Christchurch, New Zealand Jan 23, 2009 330ml. Wow this is big. Golden colour with creamy white head. Big rich fullness in the aroma - warmth, fruit and a bit candy also. Bitterness from go to wo. Grapefruit pith with a full on lingering assalt on the tastebuds Needs to be drunk colder or it gets ’hot’ as it warms. Cleans the sinuses and definately only 1 glass required Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 21, 2009 Updated: Apr 12, 200912oz bottle. Pours an off-white, almost tan lacing head with a golden amber body. Smells of hops and caramel malt. Tastes the same. Sticky sweet with a pronounced hop character. ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Jan 19, 2009 Beautiful dark amber pour with a lasting foamy head and decent lacing. Big aroma of sugary hops. Flavor is huge hoppy bitterness, along with some floral and citrus. Caramel and brown sugar malt gives it balance. Really an enormous beer, much more so than I expected. They certainly didn’t leave much out of this one. Well done. timmy300 (199), bloomington, Illinois, USA Jan 19, 2009 i appreciate the creative attempt boston beer co made formulating this interesting lager, but it didn’t work. way too much astringent hop bitterness. appearance is a nice hazy glowing orange. aftertaste is like stale armpit sweat, but not in a bad way...what is an imperial pilsner? when i think of a big pilsner duvel comes to mind even though it is an ale i think it has the soul of a nice pilsner and is about the same abv as this mess.
