Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 5, 2007 Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and hops as well as light notes of prunes and dust. The flavor is sweet with a powerful malt and alcohol note as well as a light salt note, leading to a very bitter finish. The body is thick. Not as clean as a pilsener should be - more like an ale in its expression. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 18, 2007 (Bottle 72 cl) Vintage 2005. Hazy, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Tart, citrusy nose. Full-bodied with a very solid malt base, a bit oily and an odd, salty edge. Very distinct bittering hops. But an interesting experience. 160607 omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 9, 2006 [Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm] Pale amber, average head. Hoppy aroma of resin, pine needles, strawberries and grapefruit. Sweet and densely malty. Very hoppy. Resiny finish with salty licorice and piney bitterness. Like a bottm fermented IPA, but closer to a sorghum beer or a sahti than a pilsener. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 26, 2009 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small off-white head. Aroms is mild citrusy and crisp grassy. Bitter and fruity hops flavour. Subdued malt flavour. Bitter and slight grassy flavoured finish. oh6gdx (8799), Vasa, Finland Mar 3, 2009 Bottled@Bishops Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Golden colour, big white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and earthy hops along with some wooden and sappy notes. Flavour is brutally bitter fruity and grassy hops along with some hints of fruits. Dry grass in finish too. Wellbalanced and quite pleasant. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 19, 2007 Bottle.

Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Oct 27, 2007 Cloudy blond colour. Disgustingly good mittelfruh aroma...powdery...gorgeous...explosive noble hop bouquet. The shock factor reminds me of when I first encountered the Boston Lager, back in the early 90s. Back then, the greatness of mittelfruh shocked me and it become my new favourite beer instantly. This aroma has that same effect. What an outstanding hop. Breezy pale malts back up the hop on the palate...not too much, though...but it has a great sense of balance which for me means that the malts support the hop but stay out of the way of my fanboyish slobbering. Beautiful...yeah I’m biased because it’s so rare I get to dip my head into a bag of this wonderful hop, but thank you Jim for the opportunity to relive those glory days!
