Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Santa came early this year and replaced my "Imperial Pilsner" with a Double-IPA! Thick, dense, opaque copper with a reverse-cascading head that formed rocky peaks & left a boatload of lace. Big grapefruit over whisky aroma with plenty of pastry/breadsy malts in the background. Awesome melding of flavors within a very rich body, backed up with a heady wallop of alcohol. A bit on the sweet side, but the hops carry it well enough to be drinkable right now. I expect this will perform well after a nice rest.

Have had this sitting around for awhile and decided to rate it. Aroma is heavy honey, with some wheat, bit of bubblegum, and brown sugar also. Body is a nice amber, with no significant head. Taste has some alcohol sweetness, light amount of caramel, some hop bitterness. A bit too boozy for my liking though.

This golden ale poured with a thin off-white head, eliciting a floral aroma. The flavor is very hoppy with a long bitter finish, and is quite substantial for a pilsner. This is an excellent beer for hopheads and a pretty satisfying brew for others - an impressive efffort from Samuel Adams.

Gosh I am so privleged to get one of "only" 60,000 bottles. ;) Lighlty hazed amber body, fizzy light beige head. The aroma is loaded with hops, even at this late date (I was worried that this would already be past its prime). Grass and flowers. Nice kick of hops at first taste. Sweet but the hops are prevelant enough to keep my teeth from sticking together. Very bitter but very good. behind all of the bitterness and hops there is a nice pilsener breadiness to it. I am really quite impressed. This is a winter pilsener. Almost on par with the 2005 Old Dominon Spring Brew but not quite as good. Props to Sam Adams on this one.

Pours a soft peachy amber with a good consistency, definitely can’t see through this. Herbal, earthy, metallic hops. Mild citrusy feel to it. Pretty nice aroma. The flavor is kind of mildly harsh I guess is a good way to put it. The hops are bitter and waxy, contributing some of the earthy and citrus to the flavor. Alcohol apparent, does not go down easy. Not too bad, definitely only have one at a time and it would probably be good to have with food. I believe I’ll do that right now.

Bottle sampled. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Very hoppy bitter malty aroma with notes of grapefruit. Malty sweet flavor of caramel/toffee, citrus, floral hops, and some spiceness with a dry and warming finish.

My brother and I found this, poured hazy copper with a large off white head, aroma of alcohol, sweet malts, and citrusy fruit. the taste has a hoppy bite upfront, alcohol, malt, and fruit, nice dry finish. god body, good brew. Re-rate, better on draft @ the brewery. rated 3.6 bottled, 3.7 on draft.
