Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

This one really delivers the hallertau hops which hit me in a perfume-like shield which makes other pilsners seem so small because they lack the potency and aroma that this one has. There is a realm of floral citrus bouquet and malty tones to restrain the hoppy blast which makes this a more balanced beer despite the exuberence. A clean crisp dry palate accompanies the flavors. I’m thinking favorite Sam Adams beer.

[bottle] Smells piney- big time grapefruit and citrus. Tastes malty and complex. Loads of fresh hops all the way through.. serious bitter hops aftertaste. I like this one a lot.

Hazy orange color. Big bold hop aromas, slight malt hiddden beneath it. Flavor is just about all hops. Really enjoyable, building hop finish.

2005 Harvest pours a cloudy orange-amber color witha nicely lacing pale orange tinted head. Aroma shows lots of hops with a little fruitiness thrown in. Nice bit of bitterness in the taste and aftertaste. You don’’t really taste the alcohol just the hops making it taste more like an IPA, although the aroma is more Pilsener.8/4/8/4/16 4.0 2007 12 oz bottle; Nose of the hops explodes out as you open the cap; Nose is grassy flowery hops with a lagerish graininess and caramel; lightly hazed dark gold with a big, glass-lacing yellowish head; flavor has hop bitterness, light caramel, a little sweetness, a a touch of orange zest. Great ESL! 12/5/07

Pours a cloudy orange color. The aroma is a waft of hops. More floral than grapefruit. This is spicy and sweet. The dryness lingers long in a good way. Yes, this is hop juice and I am a sucker for it. Sam Adams impressed me with this one.

aroma: packed full of pure hops, not just hoppy smelling, but it felt like I put my nose in a bag of hops. very floral, with elements of earth. The brew is unfiltered and has a slight cloudiness to it. The beer poured with 2 fingers of head that stayed throughout, and laced beautifully down the entire glass. The flavor starts as amazing punch of hops, spicy, earthy, and just plain full of hops. The beer rounds out as it finishes bringing a dryness combined with alcohol, and a slightly maltiness. medium bodied. This is an amazing beer. intense and bracing.

12 oz bottle. I have had some decent brews from Samuel Adams, but nothing that has really wowed me. Until now. Holy crap this is good. Beautiful amber color, nose is fresh hops. Flavor is truly an explosion of hops. In fact, this is hoppier than most IPA’s and IIPA’s out there. This beer will make most hopheads pucker. Im dumbfounded. This is one of the best beers I have tasted in a long time.

Had this beer on 10/11/07 at GABF. Aroma is a nice fresh hoppy scent. Color is a slightly hazy yellow gold with fair carbonation and a thin tight head. Taste is very hoppy and smooth with a mild bitterness. Overall it is one of the tastiest Pilsners I have ever had.
