Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

This may not have been "*the* hoppiest beer in the world." But it is definitely "one of the hoppiest beers in the world.", certainly for a lager! 24 oz bottle. [Man i whish I’d bought a case] Very orange amberish color. surprisingly white creamy head, with good retention. I’m not sure what i was expecting, but this was IT! Very IPA grassy / flower nose. Wonderful crisp, hoppy lager [much more crisp than the DFH ’imperial pilsner’ I’ve had] spicy and some malt. This is exactly what I’d want if i ever thought of an IPA Pilsner. Can’t wait til next year. [don’t disappoint me Jim]

YOu can cut the hops with a knife! A well balanced beer, that drinks very nicely. Great mouthfeel, over the top Hops that are not bitter, and a finish that leaves you wanting another!

07’ Imp. Must say, I am surprised. Amazing floral hoppy aroma. A blast of citrusy hops on the palate. And after that, more hops. Balanced nicely by a light bitter-sweet spicy caramel flavor. Alcohol is highly hidden. Very drinkable brew. My favorite pilsner to date!!

This beer pours a cloudy orange color with a large white head leaving some good lacing down the sides. Right away the nose on this things let’s you know you are in for a treat! It’s a very strong grassy/piney smell with a little bit of lemon and when you take your first sip you will know you have a well crafted beer in your hands! There is definite large amount of hop character in this thing! Nice and bitter with a grassy dry flavor and hints of lemon zest. I happen to be a fan of the hallertau hops(and I’m a hop head) so i guess I am a little bit biased, but this beer is one of the best beers I’ve had in a long time! Bar far sam adams best brew to date! Cheers!

2007 bottle. Pours with moderate head. Hazy golden orange color. Intense aroma of hallertau and subtle mintiness as well. Flavor provides pilsner bitterness countered by a wonderful hopiness that leaves a lingering sweetness in the mouth. The 8.8% is a master of disguise in this beer.

This is truly the best pilsner I’ve ever had. This beer almost has a perfect score in my book. A pilsner with such a hop character is to be at the least tried and loved but everyone. But some can’t handle the hoppiness of it. As for me, every area of judging gets two thumbs up from me. Thank you Samual Adams for this wonderful offering. The Lord bless your harvest.
