Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

I saw this beer at the store and decided to pick it up not expecting much....holy crap. Poured a nice orange like some of my favorite IPA’s, smelled a bit like an IPA. Taste kicked me in the face. Great amount of hops in this thing. The bitterness lingered for 45 seconds after the first sip. Good, good, beer.

Bottle. Hazy yellow pour with white head. Hoppy aroma wasn’t as overpowering as I had expected. Very enjoyable. I did not think the hops overpowered this offering. I enjoyed this very much and reminded me of a Sweetwater 420 on steroids.

2007 release, bbe Jan 2008. Slightly hazy and golden with a big fluffy head that hangs around and leaves alot of sticky lace. Big citrus and herb hop aroma mixed with some honey. Flavor is evergreen resin, grassy herb, and citrus with some honey drenched cereal grain and slight chocolate. Not really a fit with the style description, but still an excellent beer that is strangely similar to a good west coast style IIPA. Palate is medium bodied and smooth.

Bottle. Pours dark rich gold with minimal head. Smells very piney and grassy. Alot of hops. Tastes very good, cross between a good pilsner and a good IPA. Tons of hops. Bitter, with some earthy tones, sweet and then followed by grainy malts. This is one of Sam Adams better beers.

Probably the best Sam Adams I’ve ever had. Poured hazy orange with fluffy white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and a hint of spice. Flavor was mostly the same. Very smooth and refreshing. Hides the alcohol well.

12 oz bottle- poured a very cloudy (heffy like) dark yellow, great formation of a bubbly head. Aroma of hops and slightly of malt. Hits the mouth with a smooth maltiness, some hops, all carry through to the finish, which wants you wanting more. HEY BEER-PAGERS- this may not have the carbonation of a soda, but why don’t you like it? It’s an excellent beer!

My 1st thought when I opened the bottle was IIPA....cloudy yellow gold with a frothy small head...sweet grapefruit and hop aroma...super bitter from start to finish...citrus taste ....lingering hop finish....easily the best beer by far (for me anyway) from the brewer .... going back to pick up some more before they sell out
