Serious, in your face hop aroma. Looked just beautiful poured in a pilsner glass, thick, creamy 1+ in. head with some of the thickest lacing I’ve ever seen. Cloudy, orangish color. Tastes outstanding. Almost pound-able. Seriously perfectly balanced, bitter, good hop flavor, great malt backbone and sweetness. Went outstanding with the spicy pf changs I ate with it. Excellent creamy mouthfeel. I only bought one of these and now they are gone. I seriously will buy a case next year. robinvboyer (1444), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

"Imperial" Pilsners, should have big hop aroma, big pilsner malt flavor, and a big smack of Noble hop bitterness. SA Imperial Pilsner delivers on all three in a big way. Pours to a deep golden color, with a creamy white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is outstanding, with lots of big, zesty, bold aromas of herbal and grassy hop aromas that flood the nostrils. The palate on this beer is very firm and slightly slick, with lots of good, crisp, pale malt flavor, on a clean and polished body. This beer finishs with more firm pale malt up front, then ends, with a very zesty,. herbal and grassy, hop bitterness that lingers. Fantastic example of the Noble hop harvest, and a beer, while strong, should be enjoyed young, to really get the zesty/vibrant hop character of this beer. The 2007 version of this one is equally impressive, with outstanding grassy, herbal hop aromas, flavors, and bitterness. HLGIV (14), Golden, Colorado, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 9, 2008 2007 bottle. Pours with moderate head. Hazy golden orange color. Intense aroma of hallertau and subtle mintiness as well. Flavor provides pilsner bitterness countered by a wonderful hopiness that leaves a lingering sweetness in the mouth. The 8.8% is a master of disguise in this beer. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA

This beer almost has a perfect score in my book. A pilsner with such a hop character is to be at the least tried and loved but everyone. But some can’t handle the hoppiness of it. As for me, every area of judging gets two thumbs up from me. Thank you Samual Adams for this wonderful offering. The Lord bless your harvest. jezmez68 (334), Chesterton, Indiana, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 3, 2008 Nice. Sam Adams has pretty much cloned the Alpha King here. Only difference is there’s not as many hops in this beer. It’s definitely missing the pungent cat box aroma of the Alpha King. Still, it’s good. The bad news? I can get a sixer of the Alpha King every day for $7.99. It’s $8.99 for the Sammy Pilsner, and you only get 4. Ouch!
Pours an orangish yellow with a big, beige fluffy head. Sort of a bummer, I was hoping for a really hoppy pilsner but got an almost-IPA. What’s up with labeling this "An European Strong Lager?" I think they got the wrong article.
Anywho, smells wicked great with all those Hallertau hops. Nice mouthfeel, leaves a nice beer-sheen on your palate. I’d recommend splitting a four-pack with a friend. raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA

Leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma is dreamy, for Noble hop lovers, but has lots of bready, toffee, sweetness as well. Body is fairly, thick but a little too much carbonation for me. Starts fairly, bready with other malt flavors but hops do flood the mouth, and lead the way. Finish is quite, nutty, lots of leafy hops, and slightly sweet. This opens up much more,as it warms. The malts and hops work together better, which is very well, and it seems much more creamy/soft. Also the hops in the finish are more defined as it warms, lingering and lingering. I would say this is much better chilled, not cold. I could drink this(if somewhat fresh),daily. Delicious! Compared to Rogues $10-$12 IP this $4.99 a bottle, beer, is a steal, and twice as good. I’ve had 4 bottles now,and look forward to buying a few more of the ones left here. truegen (165), Puyallup, Washington, USA

A perfect head leaving a ring of lace marking each mouthful. The nose is grassy, piney, winey, and evokes the best German helles bocks. The flavor stays true to the pilsner style, though, despite the intense presentation of the Hallertau hops. This beer is damn near perfect in almost every aspect. My hat’s off to Boston Beer on this one. I’ve been a low-key fan for a lone time, and my location has hindered me in trying some of the more rare offerings. I consider myself lucky to have found this excellent brew.
