Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

2005 bottle:Cloudy oarnge/brown. Nice looking white, head. Leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma is dreamy, for Noble hop lovers, but has lots of bready, toffee, sweetness as well. Body is fairly, thick but a little too much carbonation for me. Starts fairly, bready with other malt flavors but hops do flood the mouth, and lead the way. Finish is quite, nutty, lots of leafy hops, and slightly sweet. This opens up much more,as it warms. The malts and hops work together better, which is very well, and it seems much more creamy/soft. Also the hops in the finish are more defined as it warms, lingering and lingering. I would say this is much better chilled, not cold. I could drink this(if somewhat fresh),daily. Delicious! Compared to Rogues $10-$12 IP this $4.99 a bottle, beer, is a steal, and twice as good. I’ve had 4 bottles now,and look forward to buying a few more of the ones left here.

12 oz. bottle. This is an outstanding beer! Beautiful, honey-gold color. A perfect head leaving a ring of lace marking each mouthful. The nose is grassy, piney, winey, and evokes the best German helles bocks. The flavor stays true to the pilsner style, though, despite the intense presentation of the Hallertau hops. This beer is damn near perfect in almost every aspect. My hat’s off to Boston Beer on this one. I’ve been a low-key fan for a lone time, and my location has hindered me in trying some of the more rare offerings. I consider myself lucky to have found this excellent brew.

pours a a hazy golden color, wih a substantial head. Aroma is fruity and hoppy. Flavor is the same. No idea that a Pilsner could be this good. Reminded me more of a really good double IPA from Rogue or Stone.

Sam Adams does it again, this beer is great! It pours an attractive burnt orange that has laces of blonde highlights and leaves a sick head that froths like the perfect peak on whipped egg whites. The smell of this beer is fantastic malty honey lemon wheat is what comes to the forefront, and finished with an almost candied orange peel. The taste is wonderful it hits your palate up front with a sweet syrup taste but then takes you to a bitter ride to finish you with a grapefruit like blast. This beer is very good and I’m glad I bought two bottles.

Bottle 2007. Pours a golden amber colored brew w/ a slightly reddish hue. Very robust aroma with pungent hops, deep malt scents and alcohol. Flavor is similiar to double IPA or barleywine, but with a crisper palate. Supper hoppy, nice alc strength, full bodied, a fine sipping beer.

I’m home!!! I love hops! Jim Koch has finally achieved a hop-heads dream. Being a hop-head, bitter is a welcomed aspect. The moderate sweetness of the malt accents the hoppiness perfectly. This brew is hard to find in central florida so each purchase is welcomed with excitement. This is the one brew that surpasses hercules double for me. Thank you Jim!

First off, NOT FOR EVERYONE. Flavor is amazing . If you like hops, you’ll love this. Cloudy for a lager. Tingling upon hitting the inside of the mouth. Hops somehow are not overpowering. They really got this right. Although $10 for a 4 pack is a tough spend.
