Nicely balanced flavor, with some alcohol. Creamy and thick. Very surprised by this beer. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Pours thickly to a resplendent bright orange, the body banning even the shadows. Thick milky head leaves sheets of lacing web up the sides. Initially clean hop aroma of mango and citrus, leafy and dank. Candi and brown sugars form a sticky middle of toffee and caramel. Taste is bold and brave in its pronunciation of subtle Hallertau depth in yerba, hay, and sagebrush. Cotton candy, honey, and sweet maple wood hum in intricate counterpoint. Crisp and clean, the hops themselves spectaculary meaty, pleasantly musty, and rich. Full and heavy in the mouth, the alcohol being subtley restrained and the malt foundation fully settled. Damp bitterness with black tea leaves and orange rind in a lengthy finish. Balanced and soft, distinct in its skillful use of Hallertau, it’s hard to perceive of a better example of this style. alexanderj (2271), Chino Hills, California, USA

Sampled on the same day as DFH’s Golden Era. Poured a hazy dark gold with an average white head. Aroma was nice; lemon/orange/citrus, caramel, yeast and a light hint of alchol. Found it more subtle and better tasting than the Golden Era. Bitter end, but not too much; bitterness was pine, citrus and a slight hint of grass. Flavor up front is citrus and bread. Palate is medium to big, dry finish. Alcohol hidden, but still noticable. A good take on the style without being too far of field. mreusch (742), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Bottle, with a big thanks to Gregis for this! Pours a cloudy golden straw color, with a three finger white head, great lacing. Aroma is strong citrus hops, with plenty of orange, tangerine, and lemon zest - a very nice aroma! Flavor is zesty, with some grapefruit juice coming out with the other citrus presence. Unique, well done and enjoyable. Thanks again Greg! asedzie (456), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2007 Bottle - "Hallertau Imperial Pilsner" - Pours hazy amber with thin off-white head. Strong aroma of fresh hops - like freshly cut tropical citrus, hints of herbal character and juicy berry smells as well. Also some toasted malt deep below. Flavor - well, straight off there are a lot of flavors associated with the hop resins - an oiliness with a hint of bitterness coats the mouth and prickles the tongue and sides of the mouth. Lots of strawberry flavors and some pine and beneath that a nice sticky malt backbone. Fruity bitterness lingers for a while on the palate. Mouthfeel is full, creamy, and, again, oily - but overall pleasurable. Good, but I couldn’t have more than one in a session. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Pours a clear bright copper color with a big creamy head that lasts and laces nicely. Aroma of citrus and pine hops, with some sweet caramel malt in the background. Flavor starts sweet, thick and malty, but the hops quickly show up and balance it out nicely. Nice sweet grapefruit finish. Well carbonated and thick on the palate. More please! graham515 (433), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2007 Pours a deep gold into the glass with a small white head that has some lasting power. The aroma of this beer has a lot of hops in it and some vague resemblance to that skunkiness I have come to expect from its lesser alcoholic version. This is my first Imperial pils but I was really surprised to see how much of the flavor remains similar. Sure this beer is an amped up version, but the clean taste and nice toasty maltiness is still there with the nice hop aroma and flavor. I probably couldn’t drink too many of these, but I think it’s a really well made beer. IEBAILI (123), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 9, 2007 I can’t believe how hoppy this smells, in a fruity, west-coast style that screams ’American hops.’ I had no idea German hops could be so bright. Slightly murky golden orange color with a white frothy head that lasts a long time. Fruity, citrus, grapefruit, mandarin aroma. Delicious, IIPA like taste, heavy on grapefruit, with a little biscuity sweet malt. Alcohol isn’t noticeable, body is just full eneough to carry all the hops, beautiful beer, I’ll definitely drink again.
