Fresh, fruity hop aroma, some lemon, herbal accents and spice mingling with faintly sweet, crackery malts and faint hints of celery. Hazy light rosy amber color, bottle conditioned, with a fine, uneven, lasting head and copious amounts of lacing. Flavor profile is fairly bitter to start, becoming fruity and sweeter throughout with a burst of juicy, leafy, citric hop flavors and pale maltiness coming together for the close, which is almost exclusively hoppy, seeing more satisfying bitterness linger on for quite some time. Palate is lightly creamy and effervescent, body is medium-full. Highly flavorful and surprisingly good overall. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA

Big, fresh hop aroma, very crisp, minimal citrusy scent. Slick bodied and yes, it’s very hoppy. Sharp, dry finish, lingering bitterness. Hard to believe you’re drinking a Sam Adams! Worth picking up. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

A nice earthy floral hop aroma, it reminds me of the aroma on some organic IPA’s. I get a very grainy body that has a delayed powerful bitterness to it. Could be the best thing sam adams has ever made, aka the opposite of tripple bock. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2006 The lager I would choose to be on a desert island with. If ales were not available. Truthfully, this has so many ale characteristics, I wonder why lagers are so.... There is a bit of malt lingering within, but the hops are so wonderfully dominant. Love the opacity. Gee this is wonderful stuff. I’d like to comment on the citrus aspects, but it’s a bit more like pine to me. This is unfiltered, but was it pasteurized? Is this "real lager"?
"It’s real, or it isn’t. It’s ale, or it’s not. If it isn’t, and it’s not, why drink it?" Damn me, if this couldn’t cause me to rethink that. Course if it’s real, I’d not have to. JFGrind (1353), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA

I doubt Boston Brewing in the first to re-invent the Pilsner, however, their version is well rounded, sweet, and bulging with German hops. Label said it was contract brewed inLatrobe which brought a smile to my face. It was good to know that the old Rolling Rock Brewery was up, running and producing good beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2005 Hazy amber color with a tall taupe head. Thin lace. Fresh hops aromas. Definitely smells like my Mt. Hood, just picked last week. LIght sugar cookie backdrop. Quite dry in the front. Surprisingly so. Mild citric component, not grapefruit, but lighter and slightly sweeter. Thick and chewy, with enough lift and zest to help from being cloying. Sweet lightly toasted malt flavors. mid to late in the sip. Hops come back in the linger and continue long after the last quaff. Biting and spicy sensation on the tongue. A nice effort overall. but I’m still perplexed by this imperial pilsner thing. Always thought a amped up pils or lager was a malt liquor. Alcohol is only noticed it sipped over the tongue and the nose is filled with spirits, and my ears feel warm. If you are a hophead you should enjoy this. Even I am enjoying sipping on this and watching the game. I think I will pick a few of these up to see if the hops subside and the malt comes out a touch more with a little age. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2007 2007 Bottle: Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a medium thick off-white head that dissipates slowly. Thick rings of lacing on the glass. Big Hallertau hops in the nose, coupled with some spices and citrus. Medium-bodied with a thoroughly hoppy character. Floral hops dominate with spice and yeast undertones. Malt shows up a little later as well. The finish remains bitterly hopped and leaves a lingering spicy hops aftertaste. Solid all around, as are many of Sam’s seasonals and specialty beers.
