Clear golden color with little carbonation. Passes the tongue very dry. A little salty, with lots of bitterness, something like an olive. Indulgence (141), Ajo, Arizona, USA

I am in love with this beer, it has explosively fresh pungent hops, some light fruit malty sweetness, booming head that settles to an ever present lacing, traces of Hallertau are left behind, flavors are skewed to the hops, but a sweet balanced fruity malts rounds things out, the finish is very long, palate is velvety, there is a pinch of peppery alcohol right there with it all... I’m going to hoard a case for myself. Lovely Pilsner IPA, absolutely lovely, and affordable by today standards. scoth (290), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 8, 2009 Pours cloudy orange-gold with a puffy white two-finger head, good and lasting lacing. Peach(!), grapefruit, and sour-dough bread aromas. Light body, crisp and mildly dry. The flavor is dominated by an intense hop presence; mostly grapefruit and grass. Some caramel and apple malt flavors come through too, but they really take a back seat to the bitterness. Strong and delicious bitterness. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was a Imperial IPA. Smell: The smell is sweet but no too over taking. Hops is the most ovius and it is there with nutmeg and cinnamon as well.
Taste: Not a surprise but is very hoppie, and very inviting for those who have gotten themselves familiar with hoppy bears like this.
Overall: There are many a detail to this beer that can be explained and over explained. The taste, smell, and feel, and really hard to put into words. This beer is of the best that Sam Adams has to offer.

Disgustingly good mittelfruh aroma...powdery...gorgeous...explosive noble hop bouquet. The shock factor reminds me of when I first encountered the Boston Lager, back in the early 90s. Back then, the greatness of mittelfruh shocked me and it become my new favourite beer instantly. This aroma has that same effect. What an outstanding hop. Breezy pale malts back up the hop on the palate...not too much, though...but it has a great sense of balance which for me means that the malts support the hop but stay out of the way of my fanboyish slobbering. Beautiful...yeah I’m biased because it’s so rare I get to dip my head into a bag of this wonderful hop, but thank you Jim for the opportunity to relive those glory days! crazyvin (1254), New York, USA

Aroma was i mix of hops(both bitter and floral), spice and sweet malt notes. Taste was initally sweet like fruit and had a nice mx of yeast notes and spice and finish with a nice bitter-alcohol mix. desurfer (1068), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2005 Pours a hazy golden amber with a thin spattering of bubbles on top. Aroma is initially strong and spicy but subdues quickly to a mild, sweet maltiness. Nice! There’s an intense hop attack as soon as it hits the lips, which is quite pleasing. Mostly citrusy and spicy, with a lingering pepperiness. The hop assault is superbly balanced by a sweet, doughy malt character. Finish is dry and stinging with bitter hops. This is an exceptional beer! matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

I was very excited to find this at one of my local accounts this week. This store has a counterpart in an area of town that has a different Sam Adams distributor than we do here. I guess that distributor brought this beer in and not my local one, then this case got transfused south to the store where I bought it. Anyway, like anyone but me actually cares…
Pours a beautiful hazy bronze body and a massively thick cap of rocky ivory head. The aroma is majestic, hugely floral and aromatic! The flavor and aroma boast all the same traits! Tons of grapefruit, brown sugar coated, pine chips, a mass of SPICY cedar woods, a hint of sour orange, some pineapple, some all-grain bready-ness, and liquefied caramel from hear to eternity! The hops are so very prominent, fresh and indulgent! Reminds me of the dregs I once drank from a batch of Old Stumpy at Tampa Bay Brewing…. The mouth-feel is thick, a but chalky, velvety carbonation, and the most wonderful citrus oil bittering dryness… This is a Spectacular beer! The desire of most any double IPA lover! I am buying all I can find to horde for myself!
