| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Malty and bready aroma. Amazing appearance with a burnt meringue head that dissipated to a ring. Oil-black, opaque. Malty intro with thick, syrupy mouthfeel that becomes quite bitter. The finish has dark chocolate as well as black coffee notes. The strength is evident. Definitely a winter warmer. RoscoeJackson (32), Michigan, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Black pour with a dark tan head. Aroma is some bitter chocolate malt and some licorice. Flavor is very bitter roast with some notes of chocolate and anise. pretty run of the mill. more complex malt layers would make this rather nice as the roast is robust and the small amount of anice is nice. However it remains a little over simple. Beerman6686 (1282), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma was of chocolate, rasote malts anise, and alcohol. Flavor was sweet chocolate, some mloasses and roasted a bit as well. A bit syrupy and alcohol comes through very strong too. Big hop aroma. Small beige head. Black smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter chocolate roast finish. HogTownHarry (4002), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Bottle ( 12oz ). Black, thick-looking, large moderately dark brown lasting head. Dark deep roast chocolate malt, with coffee, hint of anise and plenty of dry herbal bitterness (mid-level alcohol): slightly lactic. Taste follows: slightly sweet, but oddly more herbal bitterness, slightly stronger alcohol, some prune tartness - very good, if slightly dry, imperial stout. Slick, average body, mild carbonation, long slightly boozy burnt bitter finish: NICE one, SA! blankboy (3204), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Bottle [12oz]. Pours a nice-looking black with a large frothy light-brown head (4+). Aroma’s not too shabby either: Roasted malt, coffee and a good amount of chocolate along with a hint of dark fruit and some green hops. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, green hops, dark fruit and alcohol. Dry with a roasty, quite bitter finish. Alcohol is present but not too bad considering the high abv. Medium bodied, sticky mouthfeel. This is a solid Impy Stout, well done Sam Adams! pellegjr (18), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Pure opaque black pour, thick mocha head fading to creamy rime, aroma is vanilla tinged with cinnamon & nutmeg w/ some confection, maintains the boozy sweetness of an imperial stout, but without much complexity, minimal bitterness on finish, smooth mouthfeel
