| 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Cloudy orange with a white head. Had a half ass cranberry smell but fortunately didn’t have a cranberry taste. Worst of the the three longshot brews I’ve had. The lady on the bottle is real guppy lipped pig too. Hazy golden pour with wispy whitish head. Nose of roses, and a semi-tart yeastiness with some spicy pepper. Flavor of orange citrus, coriander, and some cranberry, but it is not overpowering. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a very cloudy, duller orange body with a finger-width, fizzy, white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good amount of lacing on the surface with some sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma is more lemon and orange than cranberry, but I do pick up a little cranberry after the initial whiff. Some paler caramels and a bit of a wheat malt. I’m having a hard time picking up the coriander and cinnamon, but there is a yeast spicing so maybe they’re part of that. The flavor is initially a fruity wheat malt before moving into a bit of a yeasty middle with some lightly spiced oranges. The finish is more orange peel with a touch of sourness, but more of a smooth, soft spicing. I guess it would be considered "bright." The cranberry comes in during the finish adding a touch of tartness to the traditional Witbier flavor. Some balancing spices come in during the finish as well. Palate is medium bodied with a soft carbontion and a slow, drying finish. Overall, not bad at all. I had low expectations for this, but it definitely exceeded them. Has that traditional Witbier taste, but the cranberry really adds another dimension. The body is really nice and well balanced as well. Crisp, but not as refreshing as the traditional Witbier, which IMO makes the palate somewhat more enjoyable. I was anticipating this being the worst of this year’s longshot series, but I think its just a tad bit behind the DIPA, which was supposed to be the clear favorite. Good one.
