Samuel Adams LongShot Dortmunder Style Export

This one I wasn’t too fond of. Not a bad beer, no such thing as bad beers, just not one of my favorites. Bruce though, he’s a damn good homebrewer.

12 oz bottle, thanks to LooseCannon. Clear gold with a white head. Sweet dough and honey nose, some cookie and herbal hop. Not quite as sweet as the nose infers, the flavor is malty with light honey and herbal hop. Corn syrup notes. Finish is light honey and mild earth. OK brew.

Pours a clear golden colour with a white head that has better retention than expected. The aroma reminds me of bohemian pilsners, bready with appley hops, and a little cerial grain. The flavour is of dry, fragrant hops, bready malts, with a fruity (maybe apricot) sticky sweet, grainy finish. There is a bitterness left on the lips in the aftertaste. It isn’t as bitter as it is sweet and spicy. The palate is syrupy and relatively thick for the style, and the carbonation is perfectly, simultaneously biting and smooth. It does share some similar qualities to some of the american macro lagers. This one threw me of bit, exceeding my low expectations.

Poured into a pint glass with fizzy white head and light golden colour. Aroma is simple and nothing too apparent. Flavor is simplistic with stale hops. Finishing with a unique spicy vegetable taste minor bitterness hops.

Bottle (12oz). Slightly hazy/hily gold with an average fizzy white head. Very grainy aroma, dry if not stale herbal hops, mostly just a generic sweet light toast malt. The flavour is very simple, cereal grain, stale hops, harshness in the finish, but I got a wee bit of apricot marmalade at the end to ease it off. Fairly chewy body, syrupy, with an odd faint industrial sugar aftertaste. Not bad, nowhere near as good as the Old Ale.

Pours a yellow color with a pretty large head with lacing. Nose is biscuit dough. Flavor is bitter, not overpowering, but it remains at the same level from the beginning to the end. There were no peaks and valleys in the flavor ride of this beer, just straight. Not the greatest, and not the worst.

Bottled. Poured a clear, brighter golden with a healthy cap of white head. The aroma carried sweet pils malts, cereal, and bread.. some herbal accents. The flavor was malt-centric, again with the bready notes and cereal.. sweet and a little tacky at times.. herbal and lemondrop bitter accents. Almost syrupy foray onto the palate caught me off-guard.. medium-bodied with decent balance between sweet maltage and herbal hops.. nice peppery kick on the finish.

Bottle. Corn/barley malt aroma. Light amber color with moderate head. Vegetable malt flavor with a weird corn syrup and hops finish. Sweet for the style.
