I was surprised when I found this. Other people can describe the smell and taste better. I guess I didn’t know what I was expecting even though the first beers I drank were German exports and pils. I guess I was hoping for more of a pils. Nope. Just an okay beer. For my money, I would say the standard Leinenkugels is better. JoeMcPhee (5025), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Pale golden colour, white head. Aroma of pale malt, light grassy hops and a bit of apple in the nose as well. The body is sweetish and on the underattenuated side. A bit peachy with pale bready malt. Finishes a little bit flinty which is nice, but the beer could have used another month in the lagering tanks. topherh (936), Kearney, Missouri, USA

12 oz bottle
Moderate pour in a pilsner flute
Best before 06/07, partaken 04/07
Poured gold with a large creamy mostly lasting head with fair lacing.
Smelt of strong sharp cheese, dough, light perfume hops and apricots.
Taste was upfront moderately bitter pungent cheese and light sweet perfume followed by a strong bitter rustic yeasty and green bite on a long finish.
Palate was light to medium bodied, slightly creamy, lively carbonated and moderately astringent.
Overall, this was definitely the biggest surprise of the bunch. By far the best Dortmunder style beer I’ve yet to have. Packs a huge punch to the palate. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Thanks dude, this stuff was not going to make it to TN, and I enjoy trying anything brewed by Sam Adams. Pours a straw golden with a white head. Nice aroma of cereal grains, lemon, cara pils, and fresh mowed grass. Nice medium light mouthfeel and texture. Flavor of sweet biscuits, herbal grassy hops, lemon, and german pale malts. Nice use of hops to balance it out. Perhaps a bit too much lingering malty richness on the finish. I felt myself needing a big glass of water after drinking this, and this is a DORTMUNDER! But overall, a decent beer. I would imagine the actual homebrew was amazing before Boston Beer Company had to tweak it for commercial release. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 10, 2007 From a distinctive embossed 12 oz. bottle with a notched freshness date along the left side of front label, a blurb on the back label, sampled at cellar temperature in a lager glass.
Poured a clear reddish golden with a large foamy, bubbly white head, good retention, small amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of fresh grassy hops, citric as well, and sweet grainy maltiness.
Good carbonation and a crisp, dry, clean, soothing smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
A delicious tasting lager, grain and biscuits, a good sharp hop bitterness, lemony herbal tea-like, and a dry nutty grain, hoppy finish that cleanses the palate.
A first rate Dortmunder Export, quite refreshing, well made, tasty and balanced, easy quaffability, a great beer for the German lager lover.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2007 Bottle. Enjoy before: 06/07. Pours yellow with a small off-white head. Grainy aroma features subtle hints of sweet corn and malts. Light body and refreshing, I guess. Not much else to report. Why would you spend your time homebrewing such a boring style? Sweet, grainy flavors dominate with a very slightly bitter finish. At least it tastes clean. No hints of the weird chemical tastes you often get with the macros. VERY poundable on a hot summer day. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Bottle courtesy of jsquire. Small white head that mostly diminished, minimal lacing, transparent, slow-rising carbonation, and a gold hue. Nose was malty, hoppy, hint of corn and grainy. Flavor was ligihtly bitter, hoppy, malty, and dry. Weird aftertaste with this one. Smooth, dry mouthfeel. Light body. This one smells bettr than it taste. Nothing to get too excited about with this one.
