Commercial Description:
Bruce describes his classic German-style lager as "pale gold in color with a blend of Pilsner maltiness and a mild hops aroma. The bitterness is just enough to balance the taste of the malt." Bruce is a former music teacher who began homebrewing 13 years ago when his wife gave him a kit for Christmas. He has since become an accomplished homebrewer and shares his knowledge and passion for beer by teaching classes in homebrewing and beer appreciation.

Looks better than it smells and tastes. I caught an odd odor on both bottles. The flavor and mid palate were ok, but seemed to lack and once again had an odd taste. The finish was brutal....maybe the six I bought was bad.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a small lasting white head. Aromas of bread, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of biscuits, earthiness, spices and a hint of citrus with a crisp lingering moderatly bitter finish.

Nice pilsner. Little phenol in the nose. Soft attack. Sweet almost corn malt finish. Would be a great replacement for a light beer in the lineup.

Delightful appearance. Bubbly gold with a large, frothy white head that shows medium-strong retention and huge lacing in sheets down the glass. Clear, bright appearance, showing gold and straw tones.
Pils malt is well-extracted in the nose, giving lots of rich honey and sweet dough notes. Classic, crisp hops are intensely dry and grassy, lending much needed dryness to the slightly underattenuated malts. Diacetyl is quite present, though well-folded in to the honey and vanilla maltiness. Yeast shows some mineral character and a nice bite on the finish, as it should. Moderate amount of apples show lack of proper lagering. High strength of aroma, those hops really do a good job of trying to break through the malts. Splendid. Now if they could just take the attenuation up a little bit more, and of course, get rid of the diacetyl.
Flavor is an exact replica of the nose. The malts are sweet and doughy, lending vanilla and honey with very light caramel. Buttery diacetyl mixes in creating a buttercream flavor overall. Crisp, dry hops and a nice biting yeast await the finish. Carbonation, as usual, is a low point for this brewery. Bubbly, rather loose and unfocused carbonation takes the texture from too aerated, to too loose, without much middleground. A very strong attempt, but like usual, their ramshackle brewery and lack of committment to proper conditioning hurt severely.
Note on my rating, I actually don’t mind diacetyl and the beer is pleasant to me, though it makes it taste English and nothing like a dortmunder should

Pours a bright golden color with a light, airy head. Large bubbles with a small amount of lacing. The aroma is pungent with Saaz hops being the defining characteristic. My initial reaction to the flavor was similar to that of a Heinekan, but after the initial blast of the Saaz hops, there is a very nice, slightly sweet malt that comes in for balance and makes the beer quite enjoyable... much more so than the macro crap. The finish is characteristically clean and crisp with a nice full mouthfeel. Overall I had low expectations for this beer, but they were vastly exceeded. Nice brew.

My understanding of Dortmunders is they are basically a pilsner with a specific minerally water profile. This one pours light gold, crystal clear, small white head. Its on the bitterside, with a malty flavor and the mineral finish I would expect. An easy drinking pleasant beer - nice after a long walk.

Bright golden color with a thick white head that begins to diminish, yet remains throughout. Mild hoppy grassy aroma like a pils. Pleasant sweet malt taste along with slight hop bitterness and perhaps some caramel. Don’t know that I’d say it’s a Dort, rather a very balanced cross between an American pils and a Munchener. Good effort. I’d buy it again!
