Commercial Description:
Bruce describes his classic German-style lager as "pale gold in color with a blend of Pilsner maltiness and a mild hops aroma. The bitterness is just enough to balance the taste of the malt." Bruce is a former music teacher who began homebrewing 13 years ago when his wife gave him a kit for Christmas. He has since become an accomplished homebrewer and shares his knowledge and passion for beer by teaching classes in homebrewing and beer appreciation.

[12 oz bottle, fresh]: clear, bright gold – thin, small bubbled, ivory head that quickly diminishes to a cream at the edges. Wheaty aroma with light sourness and must. Well carbonated palate – bubbly, but not fizzy and enough body to make it beer-like: so many lagers are watery in texture, this far from it…flavour has a good deal of cloves & bananas and some oats, very tasty…good experiment by the folks at Boston Beer Company.

Light gold color out of the bottle with a spider-web like lace... Straightforward clean malt, a combination of mini-wheats and granola in the aroma and only enough hops so that the beer is not sticky sweet. No flaws here, a prototypical dortmunder.

Pours a clear golden color with a fluffy head of white. Steady carbonation. Laces spectacularly with prodigious foam and froth sticking to the glass. Looks illuminated and bright. Quite nice. Aromas of grainy malts and subtley sweet honey. Hops noted with a quiet sharpness. Flavors give a solid dough feel with a fair amount of grain and corn. Honey makes another appearance. Hops struggle to overtake the relative sweetness of the grain bill. A bit too sweet here, with almost a corn syrup flair. Unfortunately for Sam Adams, I did a side-by-side with Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold and this version just cannot hold a candle to it.

A golden lager with a thin white head. A grassy malt aroma. In mouth, a crisp malt with chalky notes, rather mineral. Medium bodied. Bottle at 11th Annual CNY Brewfest, Feb.5 2007.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear gold with a moderate creamy white head that left some light lacing. Light but pleasant aroma of malt and hops. The flavors are quite a bit more bold than the aroma would have you believe. The malt and hops are balanced very well and this beer has a nice crisp finish. Overall very enjoyable, and a tip of the hat to Boston Beer Company for putting together this Long Shot series.

Bottle: A really nice malted aroma, crusty bread, and a bit of caramel of the outset, and a bit of hops. Appearance is a golden color with a foamy white head that lingers for quite a while. Taste is nutty, with caramelized malts. the bready note continue on through the taste and some nice bitterness to this Longshot brew. Palate is nicely bitter and somewhat creamy. Overall, Pretty decent Dortmunder. I like it. Good stuff.

The 12 ounce bottle poured a crystal clear light amber beverage with a decent sized rocky white head that was mostly diminishing and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma had a nice malty character to it with notes of toasted bread and caramel while being subtly offset by grassy hop notes. The body was medium with lively carbonation and a soft, smooth texture. The flavor starts out lightly sweet with loads of wholesome bready malt character. As the long finish unfolds, a light bitterness balances the malt sweetness.

Bottle. Pours just like honey with a fizzy mostly lasting white head. The aroma is doughy with some floral hops. I get sweetbread with jusst a hint of bitterness in the flavor. Medium bodied with a dry finish. Not bad.
