I’m giving a high overall score as, well, it’s a homebrew and it’s damn good. Not much on the nose, yet, beautiful shady orange color with strong, almost rye-ish, IPA flavor. This is beyond crisp without overwhelming hop bitterness. A half-step away from world class, and something Sam should brew normally. RedSox2004 (356), Pacific Palisades, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Cloudy amber with a generous head that dissipated to a solid film and left nice lacing. VERY strong citrus and resinous hops aromas - and a VERY strong rye smell that sneaks up after the initial hops blast. I need some pastrami and spicy mustard. Big grapefruit hops flavor, very bitter, with the rye coming through in the end again. Medium body, high carbonation, and a bitter, oily, kind of soapy aftertaste. Interesting, just a bit over the top. GranvilleTim (508), Granville, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2009 Light amber pour with nice off-white head. Nice floral hoppy aroma. Nice flavor-has a bit syrupy hoppy finish. The beer needs more body to go with the hop flavor. The hop flavor turns piney at the end. Some lacing. noncaloric (624), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 17, 2009 Hazy amber to copper pour, thick yellowish head, spotty lace. Aroma is full of ctiric hops, flavor follows, mostly grapefruit pulp bitterness at the front, more aromatic citric hops qualities emerging in the middle. A basic pale malt backbone provides a lot of body, but not much in the way of balancing flavors. ABV well supported within the flavor profile. Full body with tingling hops and alcohol warmth. A good double. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Really thick orange amberish color upon pouring. Huge pungent hop nose. Very thick body. Fairly dry and hoppy. Pretty easy to drink. FROTHINGSLOSH (2031), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright and hazy orange-caramel color with a large orange-cream head. The aroma was spicy, fruity hops with faint nutty malts. The flavor was strong with grapefruit, lemon, orange and a hint of pine and dry spice. The middle was moderately sweet, yeasty and had notes of sour caramel. The finish was medium length and fruity. The body was moderately thick. Nice but not quite up to DIPA standards. djd07 (751), Houston, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a orange copper with a small off white head that leaves good decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong floral hops and citrus with pine and grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel with the taste is very hoppy with grapefruit and pine with a very bitter finish. Alcohol very present with an intense flavor with all of the different hops coming throughout. A very impressive IIPA from Mike! KnN (744), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Pours a beautiful copper orange color with a thick, slightly orange head. Aroma is floral, green, citrus, heavy notes of grapefruit and a little pine. the malt is thick in this beer as well. Big malt presence even on the nose.
Flavor was very hoppy, fairly bitter, and then balanced out with some good sweet malt. This had some intense flavors going on in it though. Almost like both the hops and the malt got turned up to 11. Decent but might do well with a little aging.
